A few other things that make it great: We kept the language super positive, we have ideas for role play or discussion, the why behind each manner, and a family challenge to work on together. The books are so useful and will help your kids know just what to do in new or tricky situations. We have been using it with our 11 year old and it’s been awesome. Just a reminder that everyone’s situation is different and one is not more virtuous than another. Most parents at this time of year are just doing the best they can. And it’s ok if you think your kids have plenty but they still want things. That’s totally normal. Most kids don’t have access to a lot of spending money, so even if their family does well, there are always going to be things they don’t have that they are hoping for. And this is a great time to self-evaluate and share your values with your kids. And remember: If you find yourself with a lot of excess, clean things out now…BEFORE Christmas! Put your donations up for free on facebook or take the toys and clothes you no longer need to a thrift store. You just might make someone’s holiday! This is such a great alternative to the white elephant game! You can have people bring candy bars, cereal, chips, sodas, or even socks. It takes the pressure off finding a decent $10 gift, and instead adds some extra fun with the mystery cash, which keeps everyone involved…including teens. We’ve played this as a large extended family and with groups of kids and teens and it is always a good time. If you want to add another layer of participation, you can have people choose only when they roll doubles on a pair of dice.
