We don't need to carry any kids anymore, but travelling through north west WA and now into the NT has made me appreciate how useful a carrier would be for small kids. This is Mataranka thermal pools and they are using their off season to redevelop the boardwalk in. So while a pram probably would have gotten there, it would have been much harder work than carrying. Yesterday we walked up some rocks in Kununurra, they were hot! I'm sure a toddler would have struggled with the height and hurt their hands climbing up. A back carry would have made that walk accessible to the whole family. Now I'm sitting surrounded by puddles because it rains heavy here and it's mud paradise - another place I'd much rather carry a toddler! How has a carrier made your travel easier? It's truly one of my (many!) favourite things about babywearing. Share your story ⬇️

This is one awareness day I get around - 3 of my 4 children were born premature. They are in the company of 1 in 10 babies worldwide. That's a lot of families journeys that don't go according to the plan they were probably picturing. This baby is now 13 and the only problem due to prematurity that we know of is that their tooth enamel isn't fully formed. So we are lucky, but not all families are. The chance of developmental delay, disability and some chronic disease is higher for babies born preterm. There are great initiatives now working to reduce the numbers of premature births, and lots of work on improving outcomes for those babies too. I think babywearing has a lovely role to play for these families, and I personally found it great to reconnect with my babies after all the space forced between us with NICU and SCN admissions. Did your parenthood path include prematurity? Tell us if you used babywearing too! #babydevelopment #babywearingforall #babywearingphysio #worldprematurityday

Have I mentioned I'm going on a pretty big holiday?! This is a very rough representation of the planned route, weather permitting, but if you live in Australia you'll probably know anything could happen with that 🌪⛈️🔥🌞🌧 Before I go, I've got a special event planned - wonder what it could be 🤔 Keep any eye out for clues and the announcement in the coming days 😊

Looking for a new baby carrier? Stay tuned because a special event is coming soon. Keep an eye out 😉 I've got you on this one.

Lots of words to say what we already know in our bones: holding our babies makes us and them feel better. You can't spoil a baby by holding and loving them 🩷🩷🩷 Human babies are designed to want to be held, it's a biological drive but it's also good for us parents! If a baby carrier is going to make that easier for you, but isn't quite feeling right, DM me your questions. Let's get it working for you. #babywearingforall #babywearingphysio #wearallthebabies #babywearinglove #babywearingmum

There is a learning curve with a ring sling for sure! These were my big AHA moments when I finally learnt how to use one properly. About 5 years too late to carry any of my children. 1. Start those rings up higher than you want them to end up. I think of this as an anchor that I don't want to move too much. 2. So I could work out how to thread the fabric through the rings, but then I just pulled at it as a whole piece of fabric. You need to sift through the fabric and make sure both edges are actually at the edge, not folded under, and you can see a bit of all the colours in a striped ring sling like this. 3. Your baby is pretty small, leave just a small amount of fabric to slide them in to. About enough to fit your arm in should do it. 4. Sit your baby on the sling of fabric you've created. Take your time. Make sure you have your baby's legs where you want them and the fabric is going from knee pit to knee pit. 5. Then pull just enough fabric up to come to the back of your baby's neck. One layer of fabric, no bunching up in this section. Once that's in position, reach around to your other side and pull all the fabric that's loose at the top around to the rings before pulling it through. This keeps your rings high and anchored. 6. Another benefit of using a striped ring sling to learn is easily being able to tell which part of the fabric you need to tighten. A bit loose where it's blue? Find that part as it comes out of the rings, and pull it tighter in the same direction it reaches the rings, back towards the loose part. Two other suggestions - you've probably already noticed I think a striped ring sling is going to help! If it's not your look, keep the same principles in mind or borrow a striped ring sling to learn. Other suggestion - practice! I think we can be a bit to quick as adults to feel like we should master something straight away and give up. Do you love a ring sling? Hi, I'm Ann, The Babywearing Physio and I have a confession to make. I didn't have the patience to learn how to use a ring sling with my babies. I bought one when I was pregnant with my fourth child, thinking I was going to look like this calm, put together mother. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Instead I found my 2yo twins no longer had a day nap and my fourth needed holding all. of. the. time. I was so overwhelmed I didn't have the brain space or time to play with it. So she just lived in a full buckle carrier I'd long ago mastered and I think that ring sling is still in the back of a cupboard somewhere. I've since learnt some great and easy tips that would have made such a difference for me. I think having another carrier option to quickly tuck the baby into, especially in a hip carry when she was a bit bigger and I was DONE with having a kid in my face. Stay tuned for my big ring sling aha moments. #babywearingphysio #babywearingforall #ringsling
