A ‘Blue Project by AMD-B’ Update from Hafid and Alfari, our 2025 Interns. On February 4, AquaMarine Diving - Bali staff conducted monitoring and substrate cleaning. Two staff cleaned the coral reef transplantation frame, removing moss and sponges growing on the iron part of the substrate, while the others searched for seeds for replanting purposes. This replanting process is carried out to replace dead seeds with new ones. Coral reef transplantation does not stop when the seeds are planted on the substrate and placed on the seabed. Ongoing monitoring and maintenance are necessary to observe the growth of the transplanted coral. Did you know: Cuttlefish control their buoyancy using their internal shell? Cuttlefishes’ internal shell is called a cuttlebone. It is 85% calcium carbonate. The cuttlebone is filled with small chambers which are either filled with air, or the air is released, to control their buoyancy.

I think I forgot to share that AquaMarine Diving-Bali passed our Annual Green Fins Assessment As we do every year, AMD-B invited Green Fins Indonesia to conduct their annual assessment of AquaMarine’s Environmental Awareness and Practices. As we’d hoped, we received great feedback – a year-on-year improvement: So proud of my team! Apparently, AMD-B is the only dive company in Indonesia to request this assessment each year.

March 2025 ‘Blue Project by AquaMarine Diving - Bali’ Monthly Project report by @hafidrhm and @_alfarii. The weather was cloudy during our Monthly Beach Clean-Up at Padangbai, where four members of the AMD-B team collected 3.125kgs of trash. As always, plastic bottles were the most prevalent item, dominating the majority of the waste. A simple step we can take is to sort our waste before disposal - separating organic waste for composting and inorganic materials for recycling. Shortly after, we proceeded with the Monthly Dive Against Debris at Blue Lagoon. During the dive at Coral Wall, we collected 0.340kg of debris. We found fishing lines and hooks, which pose a significant threat to marine life, as they can entangle fish while scavenging for food. We also discovered a plastic bottle on the sandy substrate. ‘2025 Divemaster Internship for Indonesian Citizens’ end of February Update by Hafid. This month I learned PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course. I also took several PADI Speciality Courses: Deep Dive, Drift Dive, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Wreck Dive, Boat Dive, Search and Recovery, Underwater Navigations, and Digital UW Photographer – and my favourite are Fish Identifications and Underwater Naturalist. I discovered and learned varieties of fishes from the very small to big one. I could finally see the tiny Nudibranch, Sea Slug, Decorator Crab and Shrimp. Also, I was assigned to observe how AMD-B’s Dive Guide handle the guests above and underwater. Observed how they explain about the diving activities from beginning until the end. ‘2025 Divemaster Internship for Indonesian Citizens’ end of February Update by Alfari. I have completed the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course both theory and practise, along with several PADI Specialities Course: Drift, Fish ID, Digital Underwater Photographer, etc. From all the courses I learned, Digital Underwater Imaging was the most enjoyable for me, it taught me how to capture the beauty of underwater world :) To gain more experience as a Dive Guide, I was given an opportunity to be a Guide’s assistant. Through this role, I could observe first-hand how professional our Guide in conducting a trip – from briefing to post-dive evaluations. I learned many valuable things as a Guide’s assistant. Beyond diving activities, I also participated on waste clean-up in the mangrove area, working alongside several environmental communities in Bali. This is a meaningful experience where I could contribute positively to the environment.
