@Forbes 30 Under 30 class of 2025 🥹 4 years ago (almost to the day), I sat in my cozy 400sqft Brooklyn apartment, bored out of my mind as the pandemic stalled all my exciting work in the film industry + I was living on my emergency fund. As I scrolled TikTok, I thought about what I could do to make the world a tiny bit better. How could I help people feel happier and more confident? I thought it would be cool to post some career and life advice, things I would tell my younger self—but make it realistic, super helpful, and relatable lol. So, I propped my phone up on my AC unit and recorded “how to answer the worst interview question ever: tell me about yourself”. I edited it, posted it, and went to bed. I woke up with over 20M views on that video and thousands of DMs flooding my account. I saw the impact just one little video made on so many lives. I became addicted to the challenge of making education (esp such “boring” topics like how to make a resume or save for retirement) fun + exciting + accessible. Since then, we’ve grown to a community of 6.5 MILLION people from all over the world. Hundreds of thousands have used my templates to advocate for themselves, negotiate higher pay for them + the ones they care for, and land their dream jobs. The way you talk to yourself matters✨ Whenever I’m helping people build their confidence, the first thing that I teach is to replace your Inner Critic with your Inner BFF. We all have a voice inside her head that is going all day and usually that voice is ~extremely critical and extremely mean~ So, notice this voice. And respond in the same way you would a best friend. Example: Critic: “No one is ever going to hire me because I’m not good at anything…” BFF: “That’s just not true. The job market is wonky, but you will find a new job. And you are great at plenty of things and any company would be lucky to have you!” Practice today!
