Large language models are already changing how we work - but AI agents are one step up. Here, Babak Hodjat, Chief Technology Officer AI at @Cognizant, discusses how AI agents differ from generative AI, and what more they offer. Where LLMs are like general knowledge workers, #AI agents take on a specific expert role to carry out tasks on your behalf, from finding and booking you a holiday to keeping a factory floor running smoothly. The World Economic Forum is exploring the development of AI agents in a series of white papers. Tap the link in our bio to read them.

The politics might change, but the science is clearer than ever. The planet is warming - and even faster than predicted - due to the emission of greenhouse gases. Faced with the facts, where do businesses, policymakers, and the rest of us go from here? We get the latest in climate science from Johan Rockström, director of @pik_klima, and hear from Sumant Sinha, the head of India-based renewable energy company ReNew, on the outlook for business. The episode is co-hosted by Pim Valdre, head of the @worldeconomicforum's Climate Ambition Initiative and leader of the Alliance of CEO Climate Leaders. Watch the full episode at the link in our bio

Intense and heavy downpours called #cloudbursts have devastated parts of the mountainous regions of #India and #Pakistan this year. They are fuelled by warm, wet air, supercharged by hilly terrain, and made more likely – and more severe – by climate change. Here’s why. Early warning systems have proven to be essential for climate adaptation, but currently, only half of the world has reliable access to them. A report by the World Economic Forum, in partnership with the @wmo_omm and the @ouranu, examines how technological advances, data-driven innovations and public-private collaboration can bridge this gap and enhance global disaster resilience. Faced with the demands of growth, cities are rethinking how they operate - and when. In New York City alone, the night-time economy supports 300,000 jobs and generates over $35 billion per year. From late-night libraries to nocturnal tourism, sensor-driven lighting and #night czars, here are just some of the ways that #cities are leveraging those extra hours on the clock. The World Economic Forum has published a briefing paper, Unlocking the Potential of 24-Hour Economies, which explores how governing, investing, and designing for round-the-clock urban life can create safer, more inclusive and more economically resilient cities. By going back to the past, #architecture can help create a better future. Bioregional design used to be how all humans made their homes: using #sustainable materials and techniques that worked in harmony with the environment rather than against it. Today, this approach is making a comeback. Here are 3 examples, from #Mexico, #Canada and #Rwanda, that demonstrate what it can achieve. The World Economic Forum’s Davos Baukultur Alliance champions the #bioregional approach as one of the tools #architects and planners can use to build the regenerative, inclusive and resilient #cities of the future. Tap the link in our bio to find out more in the report, From Principles to Practice: Approaches for High-Quality Baukultur.

From Gaza to Sudan, humanitarian workers are underfunded and overstretched. But with only 1% of what the world spends on defence, we could save millions of lives, says @tomfletcher1874, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator at @UN_OCHA. His solution? Fletcher is calling for a ‘humanitarian reset’ that puts local communities at the centre. State-based armed conflict, extreme weather events and inequality are among the leading threats identified in the World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2025. How is it that global warming leads to impacts as diverse as heatwaves, hurricanes, droughts, wildfires and brutal cold spells? Here's an explainer on the link between #climate change and extreme weather - from how warmer temperatures actually make the atmosphere wetter to the surprising science of cold snaps. Climate-related disasters have inflicted over $3.6 trillion in damage since 2000, with risks accelerating. For businesses, physical risks such as extreme #weather events are already transforming markets and reshaping #business models. The Cost of Inaction: A CEO Guide to Navigating Climate Risk, a report by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with @BCG, highlights the financial and strategic case for action, drawing on insights from CEOs and senior leaders to reveal how facing the transition intelligently can unlock growth in the $14 trillion green #economy. At its heart, the universe is fundamentally unpredictable. Even Einstein found this mind-boggling aspect of reality difficult to get his head around – but it is the key to a new breed of quantum-powered random number generators that will revolutionise #cybersecurity, as Ramy Shelbaya, CEO of Quantum Dice, explains. Quantum technology has the potential to transform huge swathes of the global economy, including financial services. A new World Economic Forum report, produced in collaboration with @Accenture, explores how this sector can accelerate the secure and effective deployment of #quantum solutions. Humility and cultivation of mentors are among the attributes that @nyushanghai Associate Professor Han Shen Lin says separate the strongest students from the rest. AI is changing the game in #finance education, as in many subjects, he says - but now that students are swamped with information like never before, the benefits of a liberal arts education are once again coming to the fore. What do you think are the #skills a great student should have? Creative thinking, curiosity and lifelong #learning are becoming more and more important for employers, according to the Future of Jobs Report 2025. Tap the link in our bio to read it.

Informal waste workers in #VietNam handle 90% of the country's recycled waste. Most of them are #women. It is only recently, however, that their essential work started to be recognized. Follow the lives of two remarkable women in Hanoi - part of an invisible workforce of nearly 10,000 collectors who form the backbone of Viet Nam's waste management system. VietCycle, a Hanoi-based company, provides informal waste workers, or ‘#GreenWarriors’, with protective equipment, fire-hazard training and microfinance courses. Through the support of the World Economic Forum’s Global Plastic Action Partnership (#GPAP), they have directly reached 3,500 people in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and hope to assist 10,000 in the future.
