Bringing back our Dhokra Dragon Flies! Almost after 2 years! We had given up hope on this range because of quality issues in our previous batch. Too many damages and not enough focus on quality. We understand handmade has inconsistency and we celebrate them. But when you work with a craft you also understand the quality that's achievable with a little care. . . Thank God we found another artist who took his time yes! But delivered to our expectations. We are hoping we can do a small range of dhokra from time to time. I personally love this craft and id love to see at least some of our ideas taking form or shape.. . . If you don't know about the #dhokracraft. While the rain is something we all are waiting for this year desperately, did you know that our Cherial production comes to a screeching halt during monsoons? . . Some crafts like cherial rely heavily on bright sunny days for quick drying. It requires layers of drying time through stages of making them. . . The base as you know is made with a tamarind seed paste. If its not allowed time to dry out completely, the mask can develop fine line cracks. No wonder I see the market flooded with fibre masks for cherial! But what's craft without its challenges :) . . So this year we have planned ahead of time. We are stocking up nicely. Hopefully enough to last us until September.. As an end consumer does the traditional method of the craft matter to you ?

If you were, Me - what product design would work for this craft ? The Tholu range can add a lot of drama with correct lighting! The translucency of the leather craft can be flattering in any decor setting. I am thinking - partitions, ceiling Lighting or even furniture if designed right! We have to re-imagine craft in more ways than one. Be experimental. Because the potential is huge! We added the puppets in small sizes ( more difficult to do ), and new subjects and formats. Meet Shiva, our youngest team member. Also the sweetest! Takes everything in his stride. He has seen me in my worst avatar. And he stuck around. Courteous, simple and most importantly willing. "I will do madam" is the one thing he says all the time ...He is still learning and he gets better every day.. such a pleasure to teach new things to him. Here is a short video of him doing what he loves which is painting. But he takes on a lot of boring work of fixing and touching up and cleaning up after me. He knows exactly what I want with just one gesture. Even though we struggle to communicate, since I can't speak Telegu. But he tries his best with English and Hindi. We manage just fine 😄 I am always grateful when I have team members who are not only hardworking. But considerate and more importantly good humans. 🧡

I hope you have had the chance to look at our latest obsession with painting over the entire frame. We are calling them "infinity frames". Because the artwork spills over the edges. We have tried quite a few compositions in this format. Including our jamini roy inspired subjects. And I am having a great time with it for now :) Here is an attempt at Raja Ravi Varmas painting. Every time a commission comes to us, it's with a lot of anticipation and trepidation we open the parcel. Seeing something on the phone can be very different when you see it in person. And therefore the excitement and anxiousness all kicks in at once. Commissions take forever these days and we want to make sure that the wait is finally worth the time. These two subjects here are a very interesting choice by the client. She says to keep the balance each one of us has a masculine and a feminine side. This art represents that for her It's always refreshing when people look at art beyond aesthetics. I for one have never been able to do a deep dive into the representations of art and what it could mean beyond it sitting pretty in your homes. A short getaway to the perfect beach destination @praanaexperience is exactly what we needed! Our fill on sun, sand , a private beach, lots of zzzzz and happy wags to keep you company ... In our hunt for pet friendly places where we could take our old maxi boy with us! This was a "gold" find. I usually don't do too many holiday posts on my official feed. But this one needed a shout out because of the lovely folks ( Priyanka and Tanveer ) who run this place! They have turned Praana into a way of life that you can experience if you ever get the chance to stay with them This place is a tad bit more special for me because they are not only pet friendly. They are true compassionate beings doing a whole lot of good for their community dogs and other animals . From feeding, to vaccination drives and sterilisation..they are doing the whole drill. It's definitely not easy being nestled in a little village taking on so much! For me when I find places and humans like these... Hope floats. ❤️ Anyway, long story short - It was an absolute pleasure to get a peek into their world. A world they are determined to make beautiful around them. More power to them. And I wish them luck ❤️ we hope to come back again
