I buy art books at thrift stores if they’re cheap enough. This is from a volume of Roger Steffens photography called The Family Acid: California. Steffens is an interesting dude worth reading about. I saw this inside the front cover, but didn’t look at it closely until I got home. I showed it to @pigeonshimmer and she said “Lick the whole sheet you coward.” #rogersteffens #photographybook

I have a new role, finding art that my 11 year old daughter LIKES. I mean, all the pictures in her room for her whole life came from me, but now she is developing her own style. It’s a pretty stressful job to have, but I’m managing. I’ve been rejected a lot so far, but she was immediately into this one. Love the trowel. #harrietross #bayareaartist

Please don’t judge me for buying Cap’n Crunch for my kids. I got it for myself. Drilled and carved lucite willow tree. Pretty big effect from such a little thing. #lucite #nightlight #willowtree

I fell asleep last night while trying to think of something amusing to say about these. Carved plaques from Mexico. #twosday #carvedpanel #woodcarving #hechoenmexico

I remember, decades ago, jump ramps being a big thing in skateboarding. Watching pros launch themselves way up in the air then land on flat ground made me wonder about their future knees and ankles. I sometimes see Tommy Guerrero selling at flea markets. I suppose I could ask him. He was one of my favorite skaters, and I remember a magazine ad he was in for Stussy that was the most stylish thing I had ever seen. Anyway, I think this deck is signed by him, which is pretty cool. #oaklandish #skateboarddeck #graphicdesign

I’m a fan of Habitat, simple machines, and typefaces. Not so much of fix-it projects, though. Moths had eaten the red felt disks on the back, so I removed them, and cut out and glued new ones. Did a pretty good job, but now I want whatever tool cuts felt into perfect circles, because it sure isn’t scissors. 15” tall. #habitat #terenceconran #terenceconranhabitat #thermometer

I went to a Goodwill last night and there were 25 or so shoppers, very crowded. People all over the store. Probably several viruses. I weaved through a bunch of them to get to the back, where this was leaning. I thought it was a wood panel, but it was too light when I picked it up and realized it’s a copper relief. It appears to be signed MBUKU(?) 89, but seems older than that. African? Doesn’t matter. Weird conquers all. #copperrelief #catdecor

I put a few things I bought in my car, then went back in to the sale for one more pass. I had seen these earlier, and decided to look at them more closely, which is something I do when there’s nothing else going on. I noticed that they were signed, so I couldn’t not buy them. I am helpless when confronted with a piece of glass with a name scratched into it. And was jazzed when I found out later that what I had is a bowl and an UNDERPLATE! #hadeland #hadelandglass #arnejonjutrem #artglass #norway

Nature is plenty weird on its own, and I’m into it when artists interpret nature weirdly. I’m assuming this is by the Gail Gorlitz who later became Gail Gorlitzz, and whose website was fun to look at. #woodsculpture #paintedwood #gailgorlitzz

It seems as though dumb and cool should be on opposite ends of the spectrum, but then an object comes along and you realize that perhaps said spectrum is not a straight line, but is in fact U-shaped. And this silly object with an Italian plug is found at a thrift store, untested and overpriced, but you are helpless and buy it anyway when you see that it is called CUBOLUCE. #cuboluce #ciniandnils #italiandesign #italianlamp

Okay, so this watercolor is cute and was cheap so I bought it. But before that, I almost put it down. It’s signed T Scot, and I figured I should at least try to internet the name. I looked skyward, expecting nothing. But helpful results came back. It’s by T Scot Halpin, who was an artist and musician. My favorite part of what I read about him was that in 1973 he went to see The Who at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, and Keith Moon got so wasted that he passed out, and after a delay Pete Townshend asked the crowd if anyone could play drums. T Scot could, and he got up there and finished the show. The story on Wikipedia is pretty great. #watercolor #watercolorillustration #tscothalpin #tscot #scothalpin

One of the Goodwills near me just did a money wasting renovation which enables them to squirrel away donations quickly so I can’t see them. And still there are times when unpriced fresh donations end up on the floor anyway, which impels me to ask about them, which seems to bother the workers, which I don’t get. Then the following day they aren’t very friendly. I think it was worth it in this case for this large Bong Tae Kim screen print. #silkscreen #screenprint #geometricabstraction #geometricart #bongtaekim #koreanartist
