Part 3 of all the books I bought myself with the 50% off I had as a bookseller in December!! Very excited about all of them, I’ve had my eyes on them for ages and I know 2025 will be a GREAT reading year! 💫 Are you spotting any of your favourites? When books started to be sold in chains and supermarkets, they became an everyday commodity, something that a consumer could easily grab on the shelf and add to their basket, just like a bag of crisps. Nowadays, the possession value attached to books is crucial and varies greatly from person to person. One might decide that a specific book is discardable, heading to the donation bin without a second thought. For another person, this same book might be a precious artefact to be kept forever. The possession value can also depend on several factors: - Its accessibility: how many copies were printed? - its format: A digital book is often not valued as much as a hardback edition and one could delete the book from their device more willingly than they would throw away the hardback - The literary prizes it won: adding prestige to a title - And more Such possession value does not only depend on the object but also on what it says about us as consumers, mostly to other consumers. What does it say about you to own a specific title? Publishers and booksellers want readers to value books because this is what brings them to purchase. This is why publishers especially have been looking at new ways to add value to books, in part in creating special editions of popular books. Penguin Random House’s Clothbound Classics is also a good example of how publishers can add value, even to old books. I personally like owning books but I wouldn’t say I’m someone who gives a high value to them. I never care for special editions & usually only buy the cheapest edition of a book 😂 💫 What do you think about publishers/retailers trying to drive up the possession value of books? __ #publishingcompany #publishinghouse #bookworm #bookpublishing #deluxeedition #bookaesthetic #clothboundclassics #hardback #paperback #ebook #audiobook #readingcommunity #bookbuying

On this page you’ve learned: - How much an author actually makes when you purchase one of their books - How books are published - Why publishing is becoming like fast-fashion - What happens to your brain (and to your creativity) when you read regularly - How Amazon is hurting the publishing industry - Why book prices vary between countries - How intellectual elitism dominates book culture - Why Amazon acquired Goodreads - Why all the books you read are ‘bestsellers’ and the psychology behind them - What happens to unsold books - The impact of Wattpad on the industry - The differences between the US and UK publishing markets & more!!! And this doesn’t even include the countless of book recs!! Thank you for all your support during the past year and to all the amazing people I’ve had the chance to discuss books with! 🥰 💫 What more do you want to learn? Went from organising by colours to organising in alphabetical order and I honestly like it much more than I thought I would 😍 BUT it’s clearly missing a shelf on the top half (to match the 4 shelves on the bottom half) so I just ordered an extra one and I can’t wait for it to arrive If you’ve been thinking about reorganising your books, do it! And try by alphabetical order! 💫 How do you organise your books? Part 2 of all the books I got when I was a bookseller over the Christmas period (with a 50% discount!!) I’ve had my eyes on these for months and I’m really excited to finally read them (especially Stoner, I feel like I’m going to really love it)! Stay tuned for Part 3! My shelves are definitely all stocked up for the new year 🤩 💫 Have you read any of these books? I’ve read this book in May last year and I’ve not been able to stop thinking about it. I definitely plan on reading it again at some point this year if I can! It’s everything you want a classic to be. A provincial community, great characters with a strong and smart main female character, a multilayered story, beautiful observations and incredible writing… It will stay with you. I know that the size can scare off some people (it’s nearly 1000 pages), but if this book has been on your list, swallow your fear and read it this year! Admittedly, if you hate classics, this one will be no different. But if you already like classics, I can assure you that you’ll LOVE this one Also, call me uncultured but at the time I didn’t even know that George Eliot was actually a woman 🥲😅 💫 Have you read it? or are you planning on reading it maybe? __ #bookrecommendations #bookreader #bookrecs #bookrecommendation #bookreview #bigbook #fictionbooks #fictionreads #readmore #readmorebooks #bookcommunity #readingcommunity #readingtime #readerlife #bookishpost #bookishvibes #bookreels #readingreels #middlemarch #georgeeliot

Finally got rid of some books that I didn’t necessarily like or didn’t see myself ever reading again! I went straight to the charity shop and came back to reorganise the bookshelves with all the books I just bought 😂 Sorry if I donated your favourite book 😅 💫 Be honest, do you also need to get rid of some books? __ #bookshelf #bookstagram #bookcommunity #bookworm #bookishpost #bookreels #bookaddict #bookshelvesofinstagram #homelibrary #bookish #bookaesthetic #bookstoread #bookhaul #reader
