June 2023 - allium season. Over the years I’ve tried many different varieties. This is Allium Mount Everest, one of my favorites. Perfect together with taller plants and very sturdy which is good in my windy garden 👌🏻
Lawns are a modern thing in japanese garden design. In the old gardens moss is much more common. This is a forest of moss in the temple garden of Saihoji, also known as the Moss Temple 💚
This slope was an eyesore for many years - a slippery slope where nothing would grow. But you know, for every location there are plants that will thrive. Some places might be more difficult, but nothing is impossible. Goes for most things in life, right?
No 4 on my list of the best japanese gardens is Nanzen-ji. As with many temples there are several gardens here but it’s the inner pond garden that I love. Lots of water and winding paths with lovely design details to discover if you slow down your pace and look. More footage for subscribers 💚
By request I’m posting my top 5 japanese gardens 💚No 5 is Shoren-in and this is a kinder egg for you - 3 quite different gardens in one place. One in each side of this temple/villa. I love the woodland garden with the small pond and the one with an ancient pine tree really makes you humble. Really shows that you can make a unique and gorgeous garden even if it is small. A waterfall with too much water can make you want to pee 😆. Getting that water sound just right is an art. This one, from the Murin-an Garden in Kyoto, is simply perfect 👌🏻.
Japanese gardens may look very orderly on the surface but if you look closer they are also naturalistic and little wild. I love it! The flower here is tricyrtis, one of few flower you see in japanese gardens.
Look at all those gorgeous moss varieties 💚 I prefer this over a golf green every day of the week, how about you?
I just love how the japanese use water in their gardens. So natural and soothing 💙
Another great semi evergreen is symphoricarpos ’hancock’ (hybridsnöbär) - the green mound to the left. More plant names for subscribers.
Beautiful chilly morning ❄️ More tips on great evergreens - the grass carex morrowi ’Ice dance’ 👌🏻
Have your garden turned brown for the winter? How about investing in some leafy evergreens next summer instead of more flowers? Most gardens need more calming greens and less flowers in my opinion 😀 This is Pachysandra Terminalis (skuggröna), a great evergreen ground cover. Very hardy and also great in containers. Prefers some shade and moist but otherwise very versatile 👌🏻 More plant names for subscribers.
