It should say don’t fall FOR these scammers. Some of you may like the idea of me asking for something from you but let’s be real here, I would never do that. I would never ask for money. In fact, other than a bank loan, I have never borrowed money from anyone in my life. If I ask for a donation, it will be public and to a vetted legitimate charity that you can get a tax credit for. I barely use romantic words in real life so I would never use words like that to someone I don’t know personally. These scammers are ruthless. Other than this IG account and my Twitter account, I do not have any other accounts on any other platform. So do not follow those accounts and do not engage with anyone claiming to be me or representing me. Just be smart.

Ok here’s a more serious one. 25 years ago I worked with the legendary Joan Chen on the film Purple Storm and haven’t really seen her since. So it was an awesome full circle moment to be able to present Joan Chen with an award for her work in the film Dìdì at the 25th @unforgettablegala last night.

There were a lot of firsts for me on this Iceland trip. On a tour of a lava tube cave, we saw reverse icicles. Water dripping from the ceiling of the cave freezes and slowly pile up. But instead of sharp deadly looking icicles you get these crystalline nubs. They look so cute! The last photo is a similar situation but caused by the mist of the waterfalls landing and freezing creating an ice crystal garden. Yes Iceland in the winter is f**king freezing!

One of the things I really wanted to see in Iceland were the Northern Lights or the Aurora Borealis. Bucket list item for many many years now. I did get a tiny glimpse when I was shooting Love Hurts in Winnipeg Canada but I could not see them with the naked eye, only in photos. This time, they were bright and magical constantly moving and pulsing through the sky. We saw intense ribbons as well as the drape like ones. It was nice to share that experience with my family. The color and movement were magical. Now we now that these are caused by the ionization of electrons and protons but can you imagine what people must have thought they were in ancient times?

Iceland, the land of fire and ice. You have magma flowing underneath glaciers all over this land creating beautiful and unique landscapes. It’s seriously cold in Iceland during the winter that made for amazing winter landscapes everywhere. I hadn’t really seen frozen waterfalls before this trip. Now I’ve seen a lot.

I just got back from a whirlwind, around the world trip that went La to Iceland to Barcelona to Beijing and back to La. It was exhausting but saw a lot and was very inspired. The next few posts will be various photo/video dumps from all of those places. This is from an installation in The Reykjavík Art Musem entitled FLÓD by Jónsi, the lead singer of Icelandic band Sigor Rós. Upon entering the darkened room, your senses make an abrupt shift taking you out of the reality you just came from. The darkness is not only punctured by the single pulsating light above but by a distinct scent slicing into your senses through the fog. Explanation or the work: The gravitational force of the moon and the sun, together with the rotation of the earth, cause the periodic rise and fall of the ocean. As tides change, large quantities of water move toward or away from shore causing tidal currents. The tidal rhythm has been regular and predictable for millennia. Today we experience a change in sea levels, linked to factors that are all induced by ongoing global climate change: Thermal expansion, melting glaciers and the loss of earth’s major ice sheets. As a result of sea level rise, the heights of tides are also changing, reaching higher and extending further inland than in the past. It felt distinctly Icelandic, however, I felt something totally different while immersed in the space. Maybe because I have been grieving the loss of my father in law and have also experienced the loss of my own Father and Mother. This installation made me meditate on the time and tide of life and death but more specifically death and maybe a fleeting moment after death. Probably not what Jónsi intended at all but it brought me there.

What a night attending the Descente winter fashion show on The Great Wall just outside of Beijing! It was the perfect setting to show off the new winter sports collection. Walking up the wall I was reminded of two family trips made there when I was a kid with my family in 1978 and 1986. My how China has changed since those times. The new collection rocked with some awesome color ways and the drone show was super cool. Can’t wait to hit the slopes this winter with my new gear. #descente @descentehkg
