A lovely weekend for our team, as we connected with residents from both West Coast GRC and Chua Chu Kang GRC. It has been a fruitful 2024 for our NCMPs, having raised diverse Parliamentary motions ranging from reviewing our reserve policy to transparency in the electoral boundary review process, and the recent call to support our hawkers. Our goal will always be to speak up on matters that concern Singaporeans, and we are thankful for all the words of encouragement given to us. Here’s to continuing our journey in 2025 - For Country For People.

Hello, Boon Lay! This morning, our team visited both the Boon Lay and Jurong West Hawker Centers. Our Chairman Dr Tan Cheng Bock and NCMP Leong Mun Wai 梁文辉 took the opportunity to thank the hawkers for their contributions to our hawker culture, and for providing good food to Singaporeans at an affordable price. This is a matter that is close to the heart of our NCMP Leong, who had raised a motion in Parliament two weeks ago to call on the Government to better support hawkers so that Singaporeans can continue to enjoy good and affordable hawker good. He argued that hawkers face pressure ranging from high rentals to shortage of manpower and yet are still expected to provide cheap and good food. To support them, our motion proposed a range of measures ranging from moving away from the tender model to relaxing manpower requirements. It is heartening to know that the Government has passed the motion and pledged support for our hawker culture. Thank you to all the residents for your kind support and words of encouragement. On our part, we assure you that we will continue to speak up for Singaporeans in Parliament! NCMP Hazel Poa explains why PSP believes the Government should pay for Pioneer Generation, Merdeka Generation, and CHAS cardholders to enjoy discounts at hawker centres, instead of expecting hawkers to pay for the cost of “budget meals”. #sgtiktok #tiktoksg #singapore #sgfyp #sgtrending #sgnews #hawkers #costofliving

NCMP Leong Mun Wai proposed that the Government should move away from the practice of setting hawker stall rents by tender. He argued that the current tender system has the negative effect of driving up headline rentals in hawker centres, which can have a ripple effect on the rents and values of HDB coffeeshops. PSP proposes that all hawker stalls will be charged a monthly base rent of $500 or 3% of Gross Turnover, whichever is higher. Stalls will then be allocated by a random ballot. #sgtiktok #tiktoksg #singapore #sgfyp #sgtrending #sgnews #hawkers #costofliving

"I rise today in support of the Community Disputes Resolution (Amendment) Bill, which addresses longstanding issues arising from neighbourly disputes. Intransigent neighbours who engage in abusive behaviour, littering, hoarding, vandalism, and noise pollution have long been a serious issue at the municipal level. Even if such cases are relatively few in number, they have a profound impact on victims. Affected neighbours may feel an overwhelming and deep sense of helplessness at their neighbours who are engaging in ungracious behaviour. " ~ @hazel_poa

NCMP Hazel Poa asked MOS Sun Xueling on 11 Nov how many people used the SMS numbers 70995 and 70999 to contact the emergency services and whether there are any plans to raise awareness of these numbers. MOS Sun replied that she did not have the requested figures but emphasised that the numbers were not new, with efforts made to promote them. In light of the recent SingTel landline outage, there will be additional emphasis on raising public awareness of these numbers. #sgtiktok #tiktoksg #singapore #sgfyp #sgtrending #sgnews #singtel #PSPSG #PSPParl #HazelPoa #PSPinParliament #PSPAsksQuestions

NCMP @hazel_poa asked SMS Amy Khor on 11 Nov whether NParks’ 15-month plan to monitor the impact of the 14 June 2024 oil spill on biodiversity in intertidal areas will be extended to cover the recent oil spills in October. SMS Khor replied that @nparksbuzz has assessed that the October oil spill had no immediate impact on wildlife or the marine and coastal ecosystem, and will continue to monitor this. #sgtiktok #tiktoksg #singapore #sgfyp #sgtrending #sgnews #oilspill #PSPSG #PSPParl #HazelPoa #PSPInParliament #PSPAsksQuestions
