Sancturary Garden. Silver tones and fresh spring blooms bringing joy in our minimalist coastal cottage garden on Sydney’s northern beaches. Perched high on a sandstone ridge, the approach to this garden was both practical and aesthetic. The goal was to icorporate bountiful textures that blended well together, with burst of flowers year round. It was important that all species were drought tolerant and able to thrive in the shallow sandy soil profile. A mix of natives and exotics plants were chosen, with an emphasis on Mediterranean species. Modern Coastal Cottage Garden in Avalon Beach, Sydney. This is one of my favourite projects I’ve ever had the pleasure of working on. My clients love everything mid-century, and also adore having fresh picked flowers inside the home year round. From that, the Biodiverse Sanctuary was born. An elegant mash up of Mid Century Modern, Australian Coastal and Cottage garden styles. This garden never stops surprising and delighting. Every season there is something beautiful coming into bloom. In winter, the architectural Agave pygmaea ‘Dragon Toes’ take the spotlight as winter-blooming beauties perform a backdrop. In Autumn the bronze hues of Miscanthus transmorrisonensis plumes contrast wonderfully with swathes of silvery Cerastium tomentosum.
