So proud to share this issue of NOTABLE! We are foodies and big fans of Chef Mariya Moore-Russell @mariyamoore_russell, our cover story. She is the first Black woman to earn a MICHELIN star @michelinguide. Out on her own now, she is reimagining the industry as a restauranteur with @conniesunderground. Our chef is back and better! Her story gives us hope. We see Black women climbing all the ladders and checking all the boxes while balancing workloads that would be required of a team. When we choose ourselves and go out on our own, we essentially start from scratch. It’s definitely hard work, but the peace is worth it. And there’s this notion that we should be the bigger person, forgive those who overwork us, bully us and discriminate against us. That’s another story (literally). Felicia Ann Rose Enuha @fareworld who hosts @trillmbashow, a podcast that helps Black women navigate their careers, is on our back cover. She talks about the importance of self-awareness and the role it plays in a thriving career. For every Black woman having a difficult time in corporate, there are a handful who are killing it. According to Felicia, the difference is in knowing yourself and creating a winning strategy. What we love about this issue of the magazine are the stories from Black women like Nae’ Clark @luxurynae and Necie Edwards who are choosing themselves, taking a chance, fighting back and thriving despite the trauma. Then there are the special angels like Leah Goodridge @leahfrombklyn, Andrew Pierre and Christin Peeples @mccainpeeples, who dedicate their lives to helping others fight through workplace issues. Bullying is an epidemic and it is needless, pointless and counterproductive for everyone involved. We know there are Black women who are struggling, and we understand how difficult each day can be when you have to show up and do the work in the face of racism and toxic bullies. We hope this issue helps you see that you are not alone, you can get through it and there is joy on the other side. Check us out: www.notablecareersmag.com!

Our December issue is live! 🤎 Thank you to the beautiful, intelligent and fun Danielle Miller @danielleriann of Basketball Wives: Orlando @basketballwives for gracing the cover of NOTABLE. She opens up about the reality of workplace drama, personal vulnerability and how perceptions often masquerade as truths in our professional careers. Talented, innovative and lovely, Alysha Price @msalyshaprice, founder of The Price Dynamic, @thepricedynamic, a parenting education, visitation and consulting firm is on the business back cover sharing her expertise on how co-parenting can impact your career. Also in this issue, we connect with Amanda Willoughby and Jessica Cheney, @notyourordinaryfilms filmmakers of “I AM”, a documentary that explores Black women with anxiety. Check out the Q&A with Ansa Edim, founder of the Blacklist, a site that allows marginalized and protected groups to warn others about toxic, discriminatory companies and organizations. Is your company on the Blacklist? This issue is heavy on retirement because we know that many Black women are retiring into poverty, and we want to jump start them into action. The good news is we have experts from Edward Jones, Primerica Financial Services and US Bank to give us a few nuggets to help us get started and make sure we are on the right path. We also hear from women who are reinventing themselves after retirement and a woman who retired in her 40s! We have stories on how your career can impact your love life, the role clothes play in your career success, Black women on boards, the Carnivore Diet and winter destinations to explore. As always, Black women: we see you, and we love what we see! Cheers to your NOTABLE careers! 🤎🤎🤎 www.notablecareersmag.com #notablecareersmag #notable #daniellemiller #basketballwives #blackwomenintheworkplace #blackwomencareers #Blackwomenatwork #blackwomeninbusiness #blackwomenincorporate @getyourguy_coaching @ilovem3rry @sheisfila @divinemissmarin @thibodeau_dawn @soft_on_purpose @miquelmcmoore @tamarasbowens @bmekween

Happy Thanksgiving to all the beautiful Black women! We hope you spend this holiday whatever way you want and with whomever you choose. Relax and pour into yourself today as much as you pour into others. 🤎

Have you ever had a ⚪️ woman cry at work after a you had a conversation? Black women, you know what often comes next and it’s not a promotion. A quick meeting to chat or maybe an inquiry from HR about YOUR behavior and not hers. You planned ahead because you saw it coming. You have every conversation recorded and have documented each email and meeting between you two. Any meeting scheduled by your boss or HR, you’re ready to record it on @jobminder365. Have you ever been involved in an HR investigation? (vote) If you’re an employee and you’ve gone to HR to report an issue or someone reported you to HR the next step is an investigation into the claims. This may ruffle some HR feathers - so kudos to those who conduct thorough and fair investigations. Unfortunately for some employees, this process can feel childish, performative, amateur and void of intelligence. It’s almost as though HR is protecting the company - not looking for the truth 👀. When this happens you may experience gaslighting, retaliation and manufactured performance issues. That’s why it’s important to document the situation thoroughly with VERY detailed facts, include how it makes you feel and ways it impacts the work. ——— Here are a few documentation tips: 🧾 Immediately record incidents, including date, time, location and involved parties. You want to do this while the information is fresh in your mind. 🤳🏽Take pictures or videos of meetings or behavior if appropriate/legal. 🎙️ Audio/video record meetings and interactions when legal. 👭🏽 Have a friend, advocate or trusted colleague attend as a witness. 📧 Use emails or other written communication to follow up. 👨🏾⚖️ Contact an attorney if you think you’re being mistreated unfairly. ✨ Save documentation on Jobminder365 . Listen, we love this time of year! On the flip side, some of us are preparing ourselves for the upcoming dreaded company potluck. 😩 Many Black women skip these company gatherings or decline to participate for many reasons — often it’s to avoid issues that result in feeling uncomfortable, bullied, angry or hurt. If something feels off, don’t ignore it - DOCUMENT IT! 🧾 Here are 5️⃣ issues that you should document if they happen at the company Thanksgiving potluck. 1️⃣ Cultural Insensitivity: If you hear any disparaging/ racist remarks about culture or food choices and aromas. Or see decorations that are disrespectful to other cultures. 2️⃣ Dietary Discrimination: If they ignore or make fun of dietary restrictions due to allergies, religion, preference (vegan) or culture. 3️⃣ Conflict Over Contributions: If there are any judgements made about the quantity, cost or type of food (store bought vs homemade). If as a BW, you feel pressure to organize, cook, set up or clean up while others avoid contributing. 4️⃣ Power Dynamics: If managers force employees to participate and threaten retaliation or criticize those who don’t attend. If you notice favoritism for other employees’ contributions while yours go unnoticed. Or if a co-worker is bossing you around inappropriately. 5️⃣ Exclusion and Discrimination: If certain groups are left out of conversations or their food is purposely left unheated, out of the spread or uneaten. Or if alcohol (included/excluded) makes you feel uncomfortable. 📷 repost: @jobminder365 Download the Jobminder365 mobile app on iOS + Android to store and save your documentation! . . #work #careeradvice #documentation #careerdocumentation #workdrama #careerdevelopment #careertips #job #workplace #workplaceissues #career #hr #employmentattorney #employmentlawyer #workplacediscrimination #workculture #workplacebullying #workplacemobbing #humanresources #thanksgiving #thanksgivingpotluck #blackwomen

Are ya’ll eating at this year’s company Thanksgiving potluck? 🍗 (vote) Whether you hate it or love it, it’s that time of year…again! We’ve never been excited about cornbread casserole, but what can you do?! You may not want to participate in the office potluck — and honestly we don’t blame you 👀 — BUT as Black women we often get feedback that we “don’t fit into the company culture” if we choose to skip these kinds of events. Are we going, friends? Let us know in the comments. 🤎 🎥 repost: @diamondrose393 (TikTok); @green_rose_savage (IG) . . #work #careeradvice #documentation #careerdocumentation #workdrama #careerdevelopment #careertips #job #workplace #workplaceissues #career #hr #employmentattorney #employmentlawyer #workplacediscrimination #workplacebullying #workplacemobbing #humanresources #thanksgiving #thanksgivingpotluck

Be honest, does your phone stay on DND? Well, we’re here to disturb you and let you know recruiters are fed up! Let this serve as a reminder to turn it off during regular business hours, especially when you’re expecting a call for an interview or a callback from a recruiter. We understand that sometimes to protect your peace while job searching, it’s necessary to decompress from the phone (folks, emails, social media and non-stop news) — BUT, we don’t want to miss out on our opportunities. Let’s hold ourselves accountable starting today! 🎥 repost: @thelifeofshemira (TikTok) . . #work #careeradvice #documentation #careerdocumentation #workdrama #careerdevelopment #careertips #job #workplace #workplaceissues #career #hr #employmentattorney #employmentlawyer #workplacediscrimination #workplacebullying #workplacemobbing #humanresources #recruiter #jobsearch

We don’t know which Black women need to hear this, but enough is enough! We’ve had it with the wage theft, bullying, exclusion, racism, misogynoir, lack of promotion and stealing of our ideas. On top of that, the PTSD, anxiety and depression is taking it’s toll on our health. We have to keep precise documentation, file complaints and make folks who mistreat us, reap what they sow. Are you ready to start holding these companies and organizations accountable for the abuse?
