Today we are revisiting Town Center at The Preserve in Hoover, AL. The Preserve is a Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) community located next to the Moss Rock Preserve, a 250-acre protected city park beloved by rock climbers and nature enthusiasts. The walkable community highlights Neo-classical architecture, blending grand white-columned homes with charming, smaller cottages in the southern vernacular style. The town’s commercial district serves as a gateway connecting the neighborhood to the park. This building, which features five residential units above five commercial spaces, was the first structure in the town center and sets the tone for the design and atmosphere of the town’s main street. . . . . . . . #Nequette #walkability #placemaking #collaboration #throwback #towncenter #civiccharacter #nequettearchitectureanddesign #communityplanning #mixeduse #thepreserve

Today, we’re taking a trip down memory lane to revisit a breathtaking private residence in Shoal Creek, AL. Join Sarah Jelks, our senior interior designer, as she shares insights into this award-winning project! “It has truly been a joy to work on this project and with such an incredible team. From the contractor and client to our team here at Nequette, we often joked that all of our efforts combined formed the ultimate “dream team.” I’ve been fortunate enough to work on several “dream team” projects, and there’s something special that happens when the contractor, client, and design team are aligned—united in a shared mission, tackling challenges together, and genuinely enjoying the process of problem-solving and discovery. From day one, we understood that family, cooking, and entertaining were at the heart of this client’s vision. Our goal was to create a home that would not only serve as a lasting legacy but also be a place of connection and joy for generations to come—where children and grandchildren would gather for years to come. With a focus on natural materials, abundant natural light, and timeless shapes and forms, we crafted a space that is as warm and inviting as our clients themselves.”
Today, we are looking back at the first cottage community we designed back in 2007 in Auburn, AL. Nequette planned and designed a variety of Craftsman-style cottages, ranging from standalone cottages to duplexes and multi-family buildings with a resort style clubhouse amenity. These cottages blend modern amenities with the timeless appeal of a well-established walkable neighborhood. The thoughtfully designed 1–5-bedroom units remain as functional and beautiful as ever. The community offers a variety of exceptional features, including a state-of-the-art fitness center housed in an elegant custom stone clubhouse. Residents can also enjoy a stunning 3-tiered resort-style pool, a popular spot during the warmer months. When projects are first conceived, it’s difficult to foresee just how lush and vibrant the surrounding landscape will become. Today, the tree-lined streets are brimming with greenery, providing the community with a welcoming and thoughtfully designed environment. @creeksideau
It’s all in the details. This incredible Mountain Brook Village Residence was designed for a couple seeking a walkable, community-focused retirement lifestyle. Looking to downsize from their generational home, the couple aimed to design a smaller house that met their everyday needs while accommodating family gatherings. The goal was to ensure privacy and seamlessly blend with the enduring charm of the village. The design centers around a cube-shaped structure, maximizing space while minimizing mass. A lower second level and cruciform roof help break up the volume, while stone, timber, and tile materials reflect the village’s English Tudor style. The house is surrounded by gardens and courts, with parking at the rear to preserve a larger front yard that contributes to the village’s pedestrian-friendly feel. A raised circular lawn and stone retaining wall define the formal front yard. The interiors were equally thoughtfully designed to complement the elegant exterior of this stunning private residence. Whether designing single family homes, or multi-family homes, attention to detail and pursuit of beauty is always at the core of what we do!
Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what our interiors team has been working on! These “finish boxes” are filled with carefully selected materials for the residences at @margindistrict — including tiles, slabs, paint colors, and all the details that bring the designs to life. Now, these boxes are with the realtors, helping to showcase the story of each condo through a range of design options.

Did you know Nequette loves designing Town Centers? We believe walkable, mixed-use spaces aren’t just about buildings, they’re about bringing people and communities together. One of our favorite projects? The Town at Trilith—a vibrant, art-inspired community near Trilith Studios, designed for creatives and storytellers. To bring the vision of walkability to life, Nequette helped shape Trilith’s Town Center, designing: 263 multi-family residences 35K SF of retail across eight buildings Lively, pedestrian-friendly streets A hub for film, art, and culture Principal Architect Jared Calhoun was instrumental in the design efforts. Hear his take on the project… “I wouldn’t call myself the leader on the work at Trilith, I’d leave that to the Trilith Development team, who did an outstanding job keeping the team/s focused and accountable to the vision cast for the project. One of my favorite anecdotes from the project came from Rob Parker. He said that Trilith not only needed to be walkable, but it needed to be “sittable”... I will never forget that, and you can see it everywhere, if you’re paying attention. The idea of making a town “sittable” really speaks to the intention of providing space for fellowship and connections to happen. Much like we sell front porch living because of its opportunistic connections to the passers-by on the street, all the intentional “sittable” surfaces in Trilith provide an abundance of opportunities for planned and unplanned community connections... and that’s what creates relationships, creates community, it’s about leaving space for connections to happen.” ~Principal Architect, Jared Calhoun . . . . . . . #Architecture #UrbanDesign #Placemaking #MixedUseDevelopment #TownCenter #CommunityDesign #HousingChoices #DesignMatters #SustainableDesign #TimelessArchitecture #ArchitecturalDesign #26YearsStrong #BuiltForCommunity #UrbanLiving #PublicSpaces #nequettearchitectureanddesign #nequettearchitecture #towncenter #trilithstudios #trilith #walkability
