In 1967, at the height of his career, Muhammad Ali made history when he refused to be drafted into the U.S. military to fight in the Vietnam War. In May of 1918, in Hahira, Georgia (Lowndes County), 21-year-old Mary Turner’s life was taken in one of the most brutal acts of racial terror in American history. After her husband was unalived by a white mob, Mary courageously spoke out and for that, they turned on her. Her story is rarely taught, but it must be told.
