2025 tbr 🤍 any books you think I should prioritize? and what is high on your tbr this year?
My favorite books of 2024 ❤️🩹 . diaries of Anaïs Nin: my beautiful lifelong mentor . an apprenticeship or the book of pleasures by Lispector: came to me at the exact right moment, a mirror image of what I was living . death in midsummer and other stories by Mishima: each story as impactful and vivid as the last . scented gardens for the blind by Janet Frame: took me by surprise, inspired me immensely and was perhaps my best find of the year . my brilliant friend by Elena Ferrante: friendship as the red thread throughout a book has a very high success rate for me, but this one was particularly gripping . the count of monte cristo by Alexandre Dumas: best tale of vengeance ever written, perhaps . after the quake by Murakami: Murakami draws me in effortlessly with his clear realism speckled with oddities . to kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee: haunting and impossible to put down . the mermaid of black conch by Monique Roffey: a gorgeous mythological tale that enchanted and infuriated me at times . the flowers of evil by Charles Baudelaire: absolute beauty mixed with the ugly, the decaying, the deeply revolting
All performance art I experienced recently 🎭🎪 - antigone play: in which the young daughter of Oedipus tries to bury her brother, against the orders of the king who has forbidden it for him to be buried (the décor and light of this play were phenomenal) - circus: went to two french performances when the circus was in town and there’s something magical about being huddled up together in a small round tent, watching an intimate performance of a handful of acrobats. witnessing their trust, the strength of the human body, the boundaries of the human body and then crossing those boundaries. I will never not love the circus. - midsummer night’s dream: a crossing between an opera and Indian music and dance was not how I expected my first adaptation of a midsummer night’s dream to go, but it worked. It was original and refreshing. - dpr ian concert: I was a fan of dpr ian’s cinematography before he started making music, so you can imagine my excitement when he published his first music and it tickled my brain in the exact right way. Now seeing the neon décor and lights, the silly choreographies, the full vision, it was the closing of a circle. So grateful to always have a well of wonders to draw from whenever I lack in inspiration. A muse of sorts, I suppose.
