Join us at the Mowbray for our final talking plants of 2024! Owen Hayman, good friend of talking plants, will be joining us to give us an insight into Pictorial meadows' MegaFlora 2024. Owen works as a Landscape Manager at The Green Estate CIC and Pictorial Meadows in Sheffield. The MegaFlora Project is a landscape-scale demonstration of urban meadow-making techniques, bringing beauty and biodiversity to urban green space. Owen will share the ups, downs and learnings so far, from the 21-hectare trial area in North Lanarkshire. We hope you will stay for a festive drink and winter plant ident afterwards! Link to tickets in bio.

A snowy dawn @hepworthwakefield in our @tomstuartsmith garden. The perfect kind of snow, as the paths and the roads were clear, with just the pretty dusting on the planting. Big thank you to @lucy.bellamy and @jasoningram for a brilliant talk and photography tour yesterday @hepworthwakefield Thank you also to everyone who joined us for another fabulous @talking_plants_sheffield event. So much inspiration packed into Lucy and Jason’s beautiful book A Year in Bloom - Flowering Bulbs for Every Season, from @phaidonpress It was lovely to share ideas and bulb recommendations, with the bonus of pro photography tips in the garden. If you couldn’t make the event, don’t worry, Lucy’s book is for sale @hepworthwakefield gift shop and a few specially selected bulbs are still available on the bulb stall in the gallery foyer today, if you’d like to bob down there to get them before they’re gone! #ayearinbloom #hepworthwakefield #thwgarden #hepworthwakefieldgarden #jasoningram #lucybellamy #gardenphotography #talkingplantssheffield #bulbs #plantstall #yorkshire #wakefield #tulips #daffodils #alliums #gardendesign #plantingdesign

Tickets are now sold out for todays @talking_plants_sheffield event @hepworthwakefield with @lucy.bellamy and @jasoningram but we have a very special pop-up bulb stall in the foyer today, selling some of the most beautiful bulb varieties that we grow in The Hepworth Wakefield Garden. We are even selling the very same daffodil that Barbara Hepworth grew in her own garden in St Ives - Narcissus ‘Thalia’. Along with a copy of Lucy and Jason’s fabulous new book ‘A Year in Bloom: Flowering Bulbs for Every Season’ from @phaidonpress which features our very own garden too! Are you joining us and Richard Scott next Tuesday at talking plants? Richard Scott is Director of the National Wildflower Centre at the Eden Project, delivering creative conservation project work nationally, always with a Liverpool base. He is also Chair of the UK Urban Ecology Forum, He has delivered wildflower landscapes with partners including local authorities and community forests. Richard has developed successful new creative conservation techniques including soil inversion which has delivered startling new habitats across the UK for a selection for grassland, woodland, heathland and dune habitats, which are now extraordinary examples of what can be achieved with the right starting point. This experience was encapsulated in the Award-winning publication Wildflowers Work (1993, 1997 and 2004): a practical guide with detailed specifications for implementing wildflower landscapes. Join us for his talk about Scouse Flowerhouse, a joyous celebration of flowers and creative ecology. Imagining what is possible with wildflowers as a starting point. It’s infectious ways of bringing wildflowers back to the people. Link to tickets in bio!

The days are getting shorter but don't worry, Talking plants is back for Autumn. We are kicking off with a talk by Kevin Philip Williams and Michael Guidi about their new book: Shrouded In Light: Naturalistic Planting Inspired by Wild Shrublands Shrublands exist all around us, thriving in almost any environmental condition, from the desiccating sunshine of the endless sagebrush steppe to the deep, private shade of moist forests. These diverse and inspiring ecosystems serve as perfect models for our gardens. Beyond their inherent beauty, they provide nurturing habitats and demonstrate resilience in the face of a changing climate. Join the authors of Shrouded in Light: Naturalistic Planting Inspired by Wild Shrublands (Filbert Press, 2024) as they invite you to work, live and play with shrubs. Explore a glorious spectrum of wild shrublands, and discover the philosophies and design strategies behind translating these magnificent plant communities into your home garden. We will be following with our usual plant ident and a book sale. Can't wait to see you all there. Please note: we are at a new venue of The Mowbray for this event. Rain and the echinacea today. We had a volunteer session on, but the rain came down so heavily, we had to retire for tea. #echinacea #rainyjuly #gardening #gardenlife #echinaceapallida #rain #perennialgarden #gardendesign #hepworthwakefield #thwgarden #tomstuartsmith #landscapearchitecture #architecture #davidchipperfield #concrete #sculpturegarden
