Marking a year since losing my old account but more importantly the end of my first photo exhibition hosted by non other than The Foreign Correspondents' Club. Big thanks goes out to Culture Magazine for also featuring the work in their magazine. I am humbled. I've included some images from the exhibition. Since the write up a bit has changed in the database, can you see it? 1. . . . . #fcchk #theforeigncorrespondentsclub #culturemagazine #hkwildlife

Something a little different for today's post; NOT MY WORK but am finally showing my face for all the world to see ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Got in front of the camera for CNN's Call to Earth event discussing with @klustout on the environmental challenges facing our planet and finding solutions. https://edition.cnn.com/2023/11/28/asia/photographer-uncovers-hong-kong-creatures-night-c2e-spc-intl/index.html Big thank you to the crew for joining in, filming in the dark is quite the challenge! #calltoearth

Recently had the photographer's dream opportunity to speak with PetaPixel to chat about Hong Kong's incredible biodiversity with a touch of gear talk and how I got into it. Whilst honoured to be interviewed and everything written in the article is true, I did omit one key point that I'm sure many other photographers can relate to. The reasons I got into it was because it was my only escape from reality, deep state depression and occasionally it added a spicy touch of environmental danger to reset my suicidal ideation. In that time I got to witness the highlights and lowlights of our wildlife community; the sharing of knowledge, the insane amount of hypocrisies and lying along all niches, the mini expeditions to search for some of our rarest and even unknown critters. It was beautiful and deceitful, just like in high school. How we approach learning about nature may be vastly different, but why we choose to learn about nature is the same. For the remainder of year, do yourselves a favour, share one positive aspect of yourself with yourself everyday, and if you can, share one positive aspect with someone else. If you can't not be a douche, then fester in your own hate. . . . . . #cygnustechdiffuser #cupoty #macro_captures #turklikeben_macro #arthropod_perfection #NiFfeature #biosapiens #bbcwildlifepotd #earthcapture #passion_in_macro #raw_insects #king_insects #beautiful_insects_japan #raw_macro #nuts_about_wildlife #nuts_about_nature #natureconservancy #conservationhk

Today is dedicated to celebrating the diversity, beauty and ecological importance of some of the most feared and misunderstood terrestrial animals on the planet. Recent studies have dispelled the old saying that humans have an innate fear of snakes, but in fact we learn it from our peers? Monkey sees, monkey do. Whilst it is absolutely fair to be spooked by an unexpected encounter, snakes are not out to get us, never have since we stopped swinging on trees a couple of million years ago and evolutionarily speaking never will in the future because we're too massive and ape-shit violent. Whilst persecutions are still rife, changes are happening. Snake identification pages across social media platforms as a safe space to learn and identify slithery friends (shout out Snake Identification Australia, Hong Kong Snakes, Snakes of Thailand and many more), swathes of contemporary documentaries no longer grabbing the shock factor but instead showcasing the placid nature of snakes to lessen our already stressful lives, and policy changes to provide better rescue services to minimise stress for both humans and snakes. One of my absolute favourites from a winter rescue a few years back now, the incredibly beautiful After treating some grazes it was released into better habitat away from urbanisation. We fear the unknown; so let's learn and celebrate snakes together. #nuts_about_wildlife #nuts_about_nature #herpetology #fieldherping #reptiles_of_instagram #thereptilereportofficial #herpingtheglobe #herpsofinstagram #snakesofhk #hkconservation #hkwildlife #NiFfeature #biosapiens #orepcryptophis #redbambooratsnake

๐Ÿฆˆ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Shark Awareness Day๐Ÿฆˆ๐ŸŽ—๏ธ Celebrating the ocean's most iconic and misunderstood creatures. Today, millions are killed every year due to overfishing, habitat loss, and harmful myths, with a decline of approximately 71% since records began in 1970. There are over 500 species of sharks in the oceans, all providing their niche ecological role in maintaining balance in marine ecosystems. It's also a day to dispelling misconceptions on the level of danger they actually pose. Of the 500+ species, less than can be counted on one hand that actively pose a threat to humans just due to their sheer size. Realistically those species aren't interested in "hunting" us, but they may be curious about what we are, just it sucks for us splishy-splashy squishy apes that their method of exploring their surrounds is to chomp on things. To dispel that even further, you're more likely to be KILLED by a: dog (bite/rabies), horse (kick), cow (stamped), cat (poop), mosquito (infection), another human being (insurmountable number of reasons) than being BITTEN by a shark. Anyway here are pics of some cool ass sharks I've encountered who have shown absolutely no interest in me, because I'm neither food nor threat. 1. @findingnermo 2. @kashchan @ellyjane12 3. @philippa.thalassophile @joshintheocean 4. @makopisces @au_eugenie @tomlee_smartphone_wildlife #canonunderwater #underwaterlife #underwaterphotography #uwphotography #freedivephotography #nuts_about_nature #nuts_about_wildlife #abcaustralia #ausgeo #yourshotaunz #sharkawarenessday #sharkconservation #sharkweek #sharksarefriends

๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ๏ฝž That night was a total disappointment, with the weather playing tricks on us, pouring heavy rain every 20 minutes from morning till night~ Just as we were about to call it a night and head home, we turned the car around and saw something white fly in front of us~ I rolled down the window and shone a light into the woods, and there it was, a ghostly owl staring back at me~ My co-pilot @hylton_in_nature quickly snapped a photo just before it took off, and then, out of nowhere, another downpour hit~ It felt like natureโ€™s final gift and warning, urging us to leave before the chaos began~ The heavy rain that followed caused landslides and flooding in our area, but we managed to avoid it all~ Name ไฟ—ๅ๏ผš๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐˜๐˜† ๐—ข๐˜„๐—น ๅฐ็ƒ่‰้ดž Binomial ๅญธๅ๏ผš๐‘‡๐‘ฆ๐‘ก๐‘œ ๐‘ก.

During the winter the birds disperse across SE Australia to forage in the warmer climate before returning to Southern Tasmania. With only an estimated 2000 individuals remaining, it is deduced that they'll go extinct by 2031, so a real blessing to get to observe over two days flocks of 20+ feeding high up on flowering gum trees. #birdsofinstagram #birdphotography #birdphoto #nuts_about_birds #nuts_about_wildlife #nuts_about_nature #your_best_birds #feather_perfection #morebirdpics #best_birds_of_ig #eye_spy_birds #birdpoty #ausgeo #bbcwildlifepotd #abcaustralia #canonwildlife #raw_birds #naturein_focus

It was once widespread across the Sydney Basin, but its population has dramatically declined because of urbanisation, vandalisation, illegal bush rock removal and reptile collecting. From the kind words of @flumenorion: "I don't think I know of anyone who's seen a Hoplocephalus before a Demansia..". Quite the honour. ----- Any disturbance in searching for this species was remediated by returning the habitat to exactly how I found it, including the specimen to the very space it was discovered. ----- #cygnustechdiffuser #nuts_about_wildlife #nuts_about_nature #fieldherping #herpetologia #thereptilereportofficial #herpingtheglobe #herpsofinstagram #cupoty #yourshotaunz #herpingaustralia #ausgeo #natureaustralia #australianwildlife #natgeoau #elapid #hoplocephalus #aussiesnakes
