Meet Sawyer and Andrew, brothers and founders of Bateman Labs. Sawyer is a computer programmer and a gamer - which means he works all day on one computer, and then spends his free time playing on another! Andrew is a journeyman cabinet maker. Before he touches a single piece of wood he plans each project on his computer, at his desk. But our desks, and yours, were designed for writing letters, not writing software. They were meant for ink pots and paper, not keyboards and monitors. What would a desk look like if it were designed for a computer and not the other way around? Andrew and Sawyer opened a workshop in North Vancouver to explore this question, and our first product was a lap desk that attaches to the most popular arm-chair of all time: IKEA’s POÄNG. We love the sitting position of the POÄNG and thought it would make a phenomenal workstation for a laptop. We were right! We’ve now shipped thousands of Poang Lap Desks to customers around the world who love their workstations and spend hours in them every day. There’s only one problem - monitors. The Poang Lap Desk is great for laptops and lighter workloads, but if you want to use a monitor with a “desktop” computer, you need a desk! Well, you used to need a desk. Once we solved the monitor problem it only took a few weeks for all of us to ditch our desks. We realized that if you start with an amazing lounge chair and ottoman, the perfect place for a monitor is above your feet - so that’s where we put it. And we’ve been sitting in our V-armchair battlestation ever since. Thank you for following along with us on our journey of building the next evolution in furniture!

Introducing the VArmchair! We've been working super hard on this product over the last 2 years and this weekend we had its debut event at PAXWest. The chair is the first truly versatile wooden lounge chair. Our concept was to make a beautiful piece of furniture be much more functional. The chair and ottoman feature attachment points on them to accept a wide range of attachments that we custom make. We make everything from solid wood and very high quality fabrics.
