Simmer pots are one of my favorite ways to infuse my home with the comforting smells of the season. As a bonus, it’s one of my favorite ways to use some kitchen scraps too. I throw in the orange peels after we eat them. The possibilities are endless - so many combinations. Today’s pot included oranges, pears, cinnamon sticks, all spice, star anise, cranberries, rosemary and some roses. • Some other favorite combinations: *Lemon, sage, lavender *orange, pomegranate, cinnamon and lime *lemon, eucalyptus, rose, mint *apple, cinnamon, anise, ginger • • #holidaysmells #simmerpot #holiday
Happy Monday friends. May your coffee be strong, your heart be light and your day be peaceful 🖤
One of my favorite views. It’s going to be wild to move this Ficus come summer lol… adventure awaits 😂😂
I often get asked my method for drying fruit, so I’m finally putting it in a reel for you! This has been my go to for years. I love decorating for Yule with dried fruit. Bonus is we are going to use these to make our gift-able simmer pots. This is the method I use that I have found gives the most consistent results and the least loss of color. • *Slice fruit thin, the thinner the better IMO for oranges. Pears and other non citrus I go thicker because they have more water content and shrink more. * place on towel, pat dry and salt both sides. Pat dry again. The more moisture you can pull out now the better. The salt helps draw out the moisture and sugars. The sugar is what leads to browning (especially if your oven is too hot). *place on parchment paper on a baking sheet and place in your oven on the lowest possible setting. *bake until dry, turning them every hour. • If you have a dehydrator, that works even better. This is just my method that I have tweaked over the years and like best. The possibilities are endless with how you use these. Such a great natural decor option. Hope you enjoy!! 🖤🖤🖤 #driedoranges #yuledecor #naturaldecoration
One of favorite parts of this season ✨ simmer pots ✨ I’m putting together a reel series for these and how to give them as little gifts this week… stay tuned for that but I wanted to share how beautiful this one was today. I wish I could share this smell with you. It’s so earthy and light and comforting. • • • #simmerpot #holidaymagic #yule
These **ethically sourced** beautiful butterflies were left over from a workshop I did. They made the PERFECT addition to the tree. I attached them with glue dots so I can easily reuse them or choose to gift them after the holiday season. I think they perfectly tied together the moody theme and I love how the lights shine through their wings! • • • #gothicchristmas #victorianchristmas #insecttaxidermy
Not me thinking today was Monday 😅 my week is very thrown off lol. 🥂 Here’s to a bonus weekend I thought was already over
I frequently fall into the trap of thinking I’m too old to start new things. How silly though. It’s never too late. You’re never to old. This week I did two things I’ve always wanted to do but was honestly scared to try. Which may seem silly, but I hesitate to do things I might fail at. My beautiful nieces were in town visiting and we made soap together and I started to crochet a Christmas throw. Both things I’ve always wanted to try. So do the thing, because honestly, life’s too short not too. * I immediately fell in love with soap making. I got to use my dried herbs I grew and dried and have been storing in jars on my apothecary shelf. I can’t even explain how happy that made me. I’ll be including mini soap bars with Christmas ornaments orders this year! Just a little way to show my gratitude for your support over the years. 🖤 • This bar is lemon lavender sage goat milk and shea butter soap with ground natural loofa. 🍋 • #soapmaking #trynewthings #soapcutting
It was easier to take Halloween decorations down this year because I’ve leaned into the Gothic Victorian vibes for Christmas and it’s soooo cozy.
Switching out my art for holiday prints is one of my favorite ways to add extra Holiday cheer around my home. This is a super inexpensive way to do that especially if you’re looking for classic artworks. I still purchase prints from artists, I believe supporting them is very important (as an artist myself). This is a great way to switch it up though and to fill in around those existing pieces. • • #diydecor #holidaydecor #artprints
Sharing this again because it’s that time of year! Making these is such a fun and easy way to add the perfect amount of whimsy to your holiday decor. These and my paper bag stars are still some of my favorite decorations three years later. I fold them up and reuse them every year. • • • #paperstars #sustainablechristmasdecorations #diychristmasdecor
A closer look at these bottom shelf babes I feel don’t get enough attention 🖤
