Today, we're proud to present "Change" - the first in a series of party brand videos - to you. This video comes ahead of a momentous month. In August, we celebrate the 44th-year anniversary of our party's founding, National Day, and significant developments in projects we have been working on. Where does change begin? Allow us to take you on a journey of introspective discovery.
<SDP RESPONSE TO POFMA ACTION TAKEN BY MINISTER FOR HOME AFFAIRS AND MINISTER FOR LAW, MR K. SHANMUGAM> The SDP rejects Mr K. Shanmugam’s claims about our statement dated 27 June 2024. Article 14(1)(b) of the Singapore Constitution unambiguously guarantees that “all citizens of Singapore have the right to assemble peaceably and without arms”. While Article 14(2)(a) allows Parliament to impose “restrictions” on certain acts, it does not mean that the Government can repeatedly and consistently prevent Singaporeans from exercising their right to peaceful assembly. Mr Shanmugam points out that it has charged the three women under the Public Order Act. He is making a distinction without a difference; for all we care, he can charge them under the “Keep PAP In Power Forever Act” and it would make not a jot of difference. The point of the media statement the party issued on 27 June 2024 was that the action taken against the three individuals was not in keeping with the spirit of Article 14 and, given the peaceful and constructive nature of the procession, prosecution was unwarranted. The Constitution is the supreme law of the land, and unless and until the PAP moves to abolish Article 14, Parliament should not proscribe the people's freedoms. It makes a mockery of Article 14. Prime Minister Lawrence Wong told the people of Singapore that he "aims for a society that allows space for U-turns, experimentation and outliers". How does the Government’s current action make our society more tolerant of “experimentation and outliers”? Are Mr Wong’s words just for campaign purposes? Singaporeans, young and old, must view the present action with grave concern. We must not allow the PAP to remove our rights that give meaning to our citizenship. The use of POFMA to silence its critics makes being a Singapore citizen even more meaningless. The simple act of Singaporeans peacefully delivering a letter to the President’s office must be respected and protected. <con't in comments>

Happy Deepavali to all our friends who celebrate the occasion! May you be blessed with joy, health, and fulfilment, and may the light within you bring warmth and comfort to the lives of those whose paths you cross. 🪔
Last night, Dr @cheesoonjuan and his wife, Mei, attended the Wild Rice production, The Accidental Death of an Activist, at the invitation of renowned theatre director, Glen Goei. They were joined by some of the party's CEC members, who were also keen to watch the play. Embodying a serious message about justice and freedom, and delivered with incisive wit and humour, the performance was as delightful as it was thought-provoking. Glen and his fellow artistic director, Ivan Heng, made sure to convey - through all the laughter - that Singaporeans have always been on the same page about protecting the values of our nation and the rights of our people. Ivan also credited the audience for supporting creative endeavours like The Accidental Death of an Activist, and giving the cast and crew the courage and conviction to push through the barriers of censorship in bringing their satirical works to life. We left entertained, inspired, and thankful for the experience. Looking forward to more of such productions!
