Each detail tells its own fascinating story – leaf patterns inspired by art nouveau creations from the beginning of XIXth century and marquetry illustrations that evoke dreamlike landscapes. A moment in history, L’Observatoire was conceptualised in an original 1920s sleeping car. Using artisanal century-old techniques to preserve the train’s pre-1945 charm and innate opulence, JR dreamt up something truly immersive. Attentive eyes can find intricate details hidden in the marquetry patterns, the aptly chosen book selection with over 800 books, or in the intriguing hidden tearoom complete with a fireplace. JR is the creative mind behind many monumental works that take buildings and cities as their canvas, from Paris’ Palais Garnier to the Great Pyramid of Giza. Tasked with transforming a carriage for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, he sought to create a ‘studio on wheels’ – a creative cocoon filled with micro-environments. Throughout the carriage, there are secret compartments and wonders to discover, dotted throughout the lounge, library, bathroom and hidden tearoom.⁣ ⁣ #VeniceSimplonOrientExpress​
