One of the gardens we’ve been working on recently. A small space but packed full of lovely materials: Oak setts, limestone, cedar and self binding gravel. A few bits to finish off such as a delicate metal pergola to be fitted to the main terrace area, metal framed sofas for the gravel area and lighting final fix. Plants all in and we wait patiently till spring. Sadly I think our days of al fresco dining are now numbered for this year but still hoping for the Indian summer we’ve been promised! Now though is the time to be planning for next year and making sure you have your perfect garden designed and built ready for next summer. Here we have the dining area at the back of our mega pergola project in Hersham looking rather inviting. The sunken courtyard area of this Wimbledon project is large and gave us long and high walls to consider. It was important to get rid of the bland and uninspiring white render and create some interest. We used a mixture of vertical hardwood battens sitting flush to rendered and painted cement boards. We then designed a couple of powder coated light panels to also sit flush to all of the cladding. Simple holes that emit enough light to create a bit of atmosphere for an evening al fresco meal. We think it’s pretty effective! Our Edge Hill garden beautifully captured here by @joannakossak A modern garden for a modern house. Lana and I had a lot of fun playing around with offset squares on different levels and lines that mimicked the architecture of the house. Lots of lush green planting and the stunning benches we designed and the very clever people at @torc_pots made a reality. We were thrilled to have this garden win at the @prolandscaper awards this summer and to also be named the Supreme winner. Some of the judges comments on the last picture. An after and before (swipe) of a little garden we have just finished and planted last week. A simple scheme but has made the garden feel infinitely bigger and space for the ping pong table which was top of our clients wish list! Lovely curved walls and steps leading up to the pergola which will be covered in rambling roses before long. Wonderful aged limestone from @artisansofdevizes Design & Build: @tomhowardgardens @andreioprea499 Stone: @artisansofdevizes Trees: @creepersnursery Plants: @evergreen_exterior_services

An after and before (swipe) of a Wimbledon transformation. A tricky garden as the basement level takes up much of the total area with steps leading to a lawn and side paths to the garage and front garden. The old steps were much too wide and lost so much possible planting area and they lead to precisely not very much! We designed much narrower offset steps that gained a lot of space, planting areas and a secluded seating area halfway up. Gone with the old black and white which was far too stark and uninviting and now softer colours, effective lighting and lots more plants 🌱 Design & Build: @tomhowardgardens @andreioprea499 Stone: @_londonstone Metal work: @tbrownandsonsltd Lights: @hudsonlighting Trees: @deepdaletrees Plants: @creepersnursery Dining: @vivalagoon Maintenance: @adamrogersgardens Photography: @joannakossak

So pleased I popped in to see how this Wimbledon garden was doing. The grasses now taking centre stage and the Gaura and Verbena also delivering. A stone water bowl and bamboo spout play an integral part of the Japanese garden we created within a larger garden in SW London. We wanted the pond and surrounding area to look as natural as possible with scattered rocks and stones. The bowl needed to be blend with this and not look too perfect. @allgreengb did a fantastic job of bringing my rough sketch to life and the stone masons carved a beautiful shallow bowl out of a boulder we chose down in Somerset. Some photos here of the feature in situ and a few of the process. In a small garden it makes so much sense to get rid of the lawn and use the space for more planting and seating. This little garden had two different levels and our design evolved around focal steps to link the two areas and create something a bit different. Entered in the @prolandscaper project awards this year, we are immensely proud that we won in the design and build under £50k category. Swipe to the end to see the uninspiring before photo that perfectly illustrates how a lawn didn’t work in this garden. The very back of the garden at our Putney Heath project. A wonderful large stone circle that catches the afternoon sun and will be the perfect spot for sunbathing and listening to the mesmerising sound of the @potsandpithoi water urn. The wildflower turf has just started to take off and the mown paths will take you around the fruit trees, to the rockery and other delights in this garden that will soon be revealed! A fantastic build by Andrei G, Mihail and Ion. A Japanese garden we have been busy creating at our Putney Heath project. An area of garden which is now tucked away behind the new greenhouse was the perfect location with the existing mature trees and the dappled shade they provide.
