Piyush Gupta is leaving DBS with a 56% pay bump, bringing his 2024 total to S$17.6M—plus a S$2.5M ‘thank you’ bonus before he steps down on March 28. 💸 A pretty enviable farewell package 👀 Meanwhile, DBS is also making major moves in AI. Over the next 3 years, 4,000 temporary jobs will be cut as AI takes over, but 1,000 new AI roles will be created. Gupta admits this shift makes job creation trickier than ever: “For the first time, I’m struggling to create jobs.” His successor, Tan Su Shan, is set to make history as DBS’s first female CEO. With AI reshaping banking, all eyes will be on how she leads Singapore’s biggest bank into the future. 🚀 Thoughts on this shake-up? ejection in salary talks isn’t the end—it’s just the beginning. Too many professionals avoid negotiating because they’re scared of “no.” Rejection doesn’t close doors; it plants seeds for future raises. Every conversation builds a foundation, so you’re never starting from scratch. Plus, advocating for yourself shows leadership—a skill employers love. Reframe negotiation as an opportunity, not a risk. After all, what’s the worst that could happen? Spoiler: It’s probably not as bad as you think. So… What’s one small step you can take today to reframe rejection and start planting those seeds? With global trade tensions rising, Singapore must prepare for prolonged uncertainty, said President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at SCCCI’s 62nd installation ceremony But instead of waiting for the storm to pass, he outlined a three-pronged strategy to strengthen Singapore's economic and social resilience: 1️⃣ Expanding global partnerships – Strengthening ties with ASEAN, China, the US, India, and Europe, while exploring new opportunities in Africa and Latin America. 🌍✨ 2️⃣ Developing advanced skills & business capabilities – Helping enterprises adapt, upskill, and stay competitive in a shifting economic landscape. 📈🔧 3️⃣ Deepening social resilience – Fostering a strong community where all Singaporeans can thrive, regardless of background. 🤝🇸🇬 “There is much ahead of us. But this will be a journey that ultimately defines why we call ourselves Singaporeans. Not just Singaporeans by birth or because we take on Singaporean citizenship, but because of what we contribute to each other. And how together we make this a society where everyone – regardless of race, religion or social background – can live a life of dignity, and feel respected by others.” – President Tharman 🔗 Source: The Straits Times #SingaporeEconomy #Resilience #GlobalTrade #EconomicGrowth #FutureReadySG #InvestSmart #ASEAN #Business #FinancialIndependence #SustainableGrowth #Upskill #jobs #Innovation #Singapore #StrongerTogether #TheFinancialCoconut #tfc #cocoquote #tradewar #china #america #economy #community

During the recent Budget debate, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong dismissed claims that the GST hike had "turbocharged" inflation. Opposition Leader Pritam Singh had questioned the government’s decision to raise GST, arguing that it significantly drove up prices. If GST had really “turbocharged” inflation, PM Wong argued, we wouldn’t have seen such a drop in overall inflation levels. He also highlighted that MAS had assessed the impact of GST on inflation to be transitory—a one-time price increase, not an ongoing driver of inflation. 📊 Why Increase GST? The government defended the GST hike as a necessary move to sustain Singapore’s long-term financial health. PM Wong explained that even before the pandemic, healthcare and social spending were rising. While property and income tax hikes helped, they weren’t enough to cover increasing costs. Without the GST increase, Singapore would have ended the last financial year in a deficit—meaning less funding for essential services and support for Singaporeans. The government also introduced a GST Assurance Package to offset the impact, delaying the effects for most households for at least five years. Pritam Singh argued that based on MAS forecasts, the GST hike contributed up to 40% of core inflation in 2024, hence the term "turbocharged." PM Wong disagreed, saying that this perspective was flawed and that Singapore must prioritise long-term stability over short-term populism. 💬 So, what do you think? Did the GST increase really drive inflation, or was it just one of many factors? Let’s talk in the comments! 👇🏽 Source : CNA #SingaporeEconomy #GST #InflationSG #MoneyMatters #FinanceSG #BudgetDebate #SingaporeFinance #CostOfLiving #SmartMoneySG #FinancialPlanning #SingaporeNews #Economy #VAT #InvestSmart #WorkSmart #SGbudget #lawrencewong #tfc #thefinancialcoconut #cocoquote #tfcdatabits
