We have just returned from our Lapland adventure in Kittila, Finland. We had such an amazing time and managed to cram so much in! We booked the ‘Search for Santa’ trip through @tuiuk and flew from London Gatwick. Everybody on the plane is on the same trip so on arrival there are Christmas activity packs for the children and song sheets and all of the cabin crew were dressed in your Christmassy attire. We opted for a good old Wetherspoon’s breakfast at the airport beforehand, but breakfast was also served on the plane. On arrival, we went straight through passport control and then to a big warehouse and collected our snow suits. We took our own snow boots with us, but you don’t have to worry if you don’t have any as you can also collect a pair if needs be. We then hopped onto the coach to head to the snow village. When we got there, it was around 2pm and already starting to get dark as there are only six hours of daylight where we were in Finland. In fact, in some places in Finland they only have one hour of daylight a day! First up, we headed towards the Huskies and had a husky ride and then Oscar and Greg went on the snowmobiles as Archie wasn’t tall enough to be a passenger. We then had a snowball fight, the boys went on the sledges and played some football with the elves before heading through the forest on a sleigh to meet Father Christmas. Archie was so excited to meet him and give him his letter and asked him lots of questions about his reindeer. We then headed back to the snow village Hotel for some lunch and went in their snow exhibition. After lunch, we went to the reindeer and went on a reindeer ride and then Archie went to go on one of the mini snowmobiles as obviously early on in the day he’d missed out on going on the big ones. Dotted around the snow village were lots of teepee’s where you can go in there to warm up and have some warm berry juice and grab some gingerbread and there was also a teepee where you could decorate some gingerbread biscuits too. It’s that time of year again where I make our garlands to hang around the front door. I use the same three piece of MDF every year as we measured the perfect lengths and then had them made. On the MDF boards there are holes already drilled through so I can attach the garlands on with cable ties. I pick up fresh foliage from our local Christmas tree farm and then use my staple gun to attach it to the board and then attach our gorgeous @balsamhilluk garlands that we bought four years ago onto the top and then connect all the lights. We have suspension wires attached around the front door and again use cable ties to connect the MDF boards to that. Oh my goodness, it is beyond freezing! 🥶 Yesterday, Greg and I went for a massage at @mulberrysbeautyandwellness and it was absolutely incredible. The warm massage beds were so cosy. So when I got home, I was so cold again that I hopped in the steam room. To be honest, Greg uses this way more than I do, but in the cold weather it is a real treat. The pool house now gets so much use. At the start when we first built it, I was a bit worried that it wouldn’t get used as much as it does now. The steam room gets used all the time by Greg and when Oscar has his friends over for a sleepover, they all sleep down there in the lounge. It was the perfect addition to our home and I can see as both the boys get older how much extra use it will get and gives the boys some freedom when their friends are over. I’m secretly wishing that Football gets cancelled on Sunday as I do not fancy standing out for nearly 2 hours in the freezing cold. I’ve purchased some electric handwarmers from Amazon. hoping they will do the trick. So last night, we went out for dinner with our friends to the glasshouse restaurant at the @thegrovehotel and then didn’t get into bed until after midnight. We then thought it was a good idea to set our alarm for 3:50am to get up to watch the Mike Tyson, Jake Paul fight. That was a stupid decision! What a disappointment! Anyway, we got back into bed at 5:45am for an extra couple of hours sleep. Needless to say, we are all knackered today as Oscar and Archie got up and watched it with us too. The winter sun is pretty, but the cold weather is not for me. I’m definitely not one of those people that enjoy wrapping up and going for a winter walk, give me a some warm sunshine any day! We live in the UK so I don’t have much choice but another annoyance for me about the winter sun is that that every dirty mark or smear shows up on the windows and doors. Don’t stress, I have a quick and easy solution for this…. 1. Fill up a spray bottle with the warm water and fairy up liquid and spray it all over the glass. 2. Then fill up your dish Matic wand with half fairy up liquid half white wine vinegar and then scrub the now wet glass. 3. Use @karcher_uk window vac which then leaves your glass streak free and glistening. You know me, I love a cleaning hack that makes the job easier but doesn’t compromise on the quality finish at the end. Using the window vac is definitely one of those hacks.
