“Eldorado Ballroom“ line up of my dreammms 💙 curated by me for @saintheron @laphil tickets uppp today at 10 am (PT) on laphil.com Show 1: “On Dissonance: An Evening of Classical, Symphonic, and Opera Works by Black Women Composers and Conductors Featuring the Orchestral works of Julia Perry, Patrice Rushen, and Solange Knowles performed by the LA Phil, conducted by Jerri Lynne Johnson, featuring soprano Zoie Reams. Notes: -My music for Two Tubas “Not Necessarily In Arms Reach” will make its US debut. It is short (3 minutes) but sweet, & I hold it near to my heart✨ -Patrice Rushen’s “SINFONIA”, her first composition written for an orchestra in 1999 will also be performed 🙏🏾 -Julia Perry’s Homunculus C.F., scored for harp, celesta/piano, and eight additional percussionists will also be performed. I gagged when i heard this piece because the streets will try and make you think that classical minimalism was birthed by white men in 1964, and Julia composed this in 1960, sooo ?? Show 2: “Contrapuntal Counterpoints: Experimentation In Funk, Soul, and Jazz” Featuring performances by Bilal alongside  Cooper-Moore, William Parker & Michael Wimberly, J*Davey, and Liv.e Notes: J* Davey is reuniting 🙂‍↔️ Liv.e is so ill! annnddd seeing/hearing Bilal with Cooper Moore, William Parker and Michael Wimberly as a band is about to be pretty weird (in the best way) and improv at its finest. Show: 3: “Glory to Glory: A Revival For Spiritual and Devotional Art ”  Featuring performances by GMWA Women Of Worship Choir,  Organist Dominique Johnson featuring Moses Sumney,  and the Choral and Piano Works of Mary Lou Williams performed by Artina McCain  and choir conducted by Malcom Merriweather Notes: When GMWA Women Of Worship perform “Order My Steps” I don’t want nan of yall even looking my way 😭 Obvsss a Gospel legendaric classic, but Glenn Edward Burleigh composed it in HOUSTON, & had a history of incorporating classical & opera idioms w Black American blues & jazz. This song is the embodiment of what I am trying to achieve with “Glory To Glory”. There are so many conventions of praise represented on this night. I can’t wait! In Service to Whom (2023) 84 minutes A four-act performance Sound, Video projection, Scenography, Archival Collection 24 screens, 4 channels VOLUME 2023 – Art Gallery of New South Wales As I contemplate the evolution and maturation of my artistry, “In Service To Whom” was developed around constructing new narratives surrounding my body, the posture of rest, protection from the gaze, and speaks to a reemergence into the world of everyday life following periods of personal incubation and self-revitalization. The piece featured a sound piece featuring artist Autumn Knight and premiered “Not Necessarily In Arms Reach, Music for Two Tubas ” and “If the Promise is Large” for solo cello and double bass.
