Northern Dynasty Chinese drama 《Untouchable Lovers 凤囚凰》𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟯 The most ridiculed hairstyle when this drama aired, was this “telephone” or “sewing machine” looking hairbun. Although this hairstyle done in the drama is not completely accurate the shape somewhat does resemble the ones worn by noble ladies depicted in the Eastern Jin Dynasty scrolls. Northern Dynasty Chinese drama 《Untouchable Lovers 凤囚凰》𝗛𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝟭 This drama was released back in 2018 and was roughly set around the Northern Dynasties. It was meet with ridicule for its outlandish costumes and hairstyles. Despite the many historical inaccuracies there are still some nice hairstyles taken from relics and other time periods. These two for example are both maids in the drama, the first (P1) recreated a Northern Wei double hair bun with a similar costumes worn as the actual figurine (P3.). 𝐐𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐲 (𝟐𝟐𝟏–𝟐𝟎𝟔 𝐁𝐂𝐄) One of the most significant archaeological discoveries in Asia was the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, the First Qin Dynasty Emperor of China. The entrance was guarded by a real life proportioned terracotta army which were all initially coloured (P12) but due to air exposure the colour started to disintegrate so all evacuations were stopped till this day to prevent damage. Apart from the terracotta figures a bronze figurine of a man driving a chariot (P3) were also found among the treasures. This Charioteer driver has his hands in a pulling position ready to pull the reins attached to the horse. He is of a high position responsible for driving the high officials as well as protection. The headgear he is wearing, called He Guan 鶡冠 which was only worn by high ranked senior military warriors in the Qin Dynasty. 北朝 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗗𝘆𝗻𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 (439-581) 北朝貴族服飾 Northern Dynasty Nobility Attire This mural (P1 P2 P3) from the tomb of Xu Xianxiu 徐顯秀墓 located in Wangjiafeng, Taiyuan, belonged to Xu Xianxiu who was the Northern Qi Prince of Wu’an. In the centre, he is pictured with his wife, both holding lacquer cups and sitting upright under a curtain tent looking straight ahead. They are both wearing noble costumes and Xu Xianxiu is also wearing a white fur coat that was most likely made of ermine fur. P4 shows a restoration of a Northern Wei (396-535) 北魏 fur trimmed leather black coat unearthed in Yihe Nur M3 Tomb in Inner Mongolia.
