September 4th: My day started with a routine OB-GYN appointment where I was told it might be another week before I’d meet my little one. But life had other plans. Later that night, my water unexpectedly broke, and by 9:30 PM, I was rushed to the A&E, only 1cm dilated. The doctor said she would check on me in the morning, but by 11:30 PM, I was already having contractions every 3-4 minutes. The pain was unbearable. I begged for an epidural, but it was too soon, so they gave me a pain-relief injection instead. The next 11 hours were excruciating, and by 10:30 AM, I was still pleading for an epidural. Despite only being 2.5cm dilated, the doctors agreed to induce labor and give me the epidural I desperately needed. What followed was a grueling 24 hours. In the final three hours, the baby began showing signs of distress—his heart rate fluctuated and dropped, and I was only 6cm dilated. The doctors decided an emergency C-section was the safest option. I wasn’t mentally prepared for this, and my heart sank. I cried, letting go of my birth plan and putting my full trust in the doctors to prioritize our baby’s safety. As the medical team prepped for surgery, I was wheeled into the operating room. Everything felt like a blur—medical chatter, dimmed lights—but I focused on John’s reassuring presence beside me. Amidst the whirlwind of activity, I imagined the moment I would finally meet our baby. And then, amidst the chaos, I heard it: our baby’s first cry. It was small but powerful, cutting through the tension. Tears filled my eyes as I looked at John, who was beaming with joy and relief.
