A heartfelt thank you to @beccaratti and @yeongsassall at Vogue Living for showcasing the entrance hallway of our St Kilda House. Faced with the risk of the house structurally splitting at this critical juncture, we reimagined and meticulously rebuilt the original archway, restoring the entrance to its rightful grandeur. To replace the long-lost stained glass, we commissioned beautifully hand-painted designs for the door’s window surrounds. We also introduced an interlocking marble stone inlay to elegantly define and enhance the entrance. See before photos to see transformation. Our St Kilda Hill house ‘parlour’ is a testament to thoughtful restoration and reinvention. Over the years, the room had been stripped down to its bare bones, with even the fireplace removed. When reinstating key features like the fireplace and skirtings, we opted for a distinct design language that complements the original Victorian character rather than directly replicating it. To evoke old-world formality and create depth, we commissioned a bespoke wallpaper scene and selected a vintage Barovier & Toso gold leaf chandelier, adding a touch of opulence to the space. The addition to our St Kilda house showcases a modern curved form, seamlessly finished with the same traditional sand-cement render as the original Victorian home. A bespoke curved glass window was designed to mirror this shape, while a solid timber pergola elegantly intersects the curved wall at its start and end. This pergola integrates an automated sunshade system, offering precise control over light and weather to cultivate a tranquil ,private oasis. Our St Kilda House highlights the exceptional work of the Robson Rak team in transforming a worn and weathered Victorian home into a vibrant, contemporary family residence for the 21st century. While key elements of the home were lovingly restored, we strategically embraced thoughtful reinterpretation over direct replication. A paired-back transparent solid steel fence was designed to let the landscape serve as the barrier, while framing and highlighting the stunning Victorian features beyond. On the veranda, we introduced an interlocking tile pattern which serves to compliment the Victorian aesthetic instead of merely copying it. Introducing our St Kilda Hill House, this year’s proud winner of the City of Port Phillip Design & Development Awards. This project stands as one of our most remarkable transformations, reviving a severely neglected two-story Victorian terrace that had even lost its second-story corner veranda over time. Once a grand home on a prominent corner, it had fallen victim to decades of St Kilda’s boom-bust-cycles, leaving it in a state of significant disrepair.
