Whilst December might seem like the perfect time to stay wrapped up indoors, a surprising number of vegetables and flowers can still be nurtured under the cover of a greenhouse to ensure your garden looks beautiful all year round. Greenhouses and grow houses are the ideal starter locations for all sorts of seedlings and can keep winter blooms thriving through the darkest days. For our top recommendations on what to plant this month, head over to our blog. Photo credit: Keren Moulton

This time of year isn’t just about tidying up the garden beds and readying the plants for winter, it’s also the perfect time to get everything prepped for a fresh start come spring! I loved building this beaut of a @rhinogreenhouses greenhouse back in 2022 - total pleasure to put together - and you’ll agree it looks so welcoming now it’s had a bit of a sort out! Hope my lovely customers enjoy their blissful space 🄰 #goodrichhomeandgarden #aberystwythgardener #aberystwythgardening #aberystwyth #highlandsgardener #fortwilliamgardener #fortaugustusgardener #wintergardenjobs #rhinogreenhouses #gardenersworld

ā€œStanding in the garden, on a still morning, I hear a pronounced rustling, it seems I’m not the only one who likes mucking about in the leaves. There’s a thrashing about in the thinning canopy too, while something else, seems to be troubling about something or other nearer the ground, to be honest, there’s all sorts of chatter going on. Yes, it’s grey squirrels of course! They’re a noisy bunch really, annoyingly endearing, but frightfully destructive too. They are all getting ready for winter, so are busy collecting nuts, acorns and seeds which they’ll stow away for the colder, darker months ahead.ā€ā   Discover Gill’s autumn blog, featuring his roast squirrel with squash, sage & hazelnuts recipe. The ultimate autumn dish... albeit in a curious, Beatrix Potter kind of way.

"The pumpkin harvest is fair recompense for the end of summer. Adequate consolation for the shorter days and the bedraggled veg patch. More than adequate in fact. For me, the day I pick the winter squash is one of the most joyful in the gardening year. I brush them clean and arrange them in rows in the greenhouse to ā€˜cure’ for a few days. I survey the lines of orange, green and azure blue jewels and feel like a squirrel preparing for hibernation. And, in a sense, I am stocking up for the long evenings, gathering the last of the harvest ready for a cold winter of soups and stews." Read Kathy's autumn blog (featuring an incredibly delicious autumnal recipe) in full over on the website.

#growalongwithmycountryhome A few things here that have and will help me for the sowing & growing season. Please note none of this is paid partnership- it’s just little old me sharing products I love (Though I’m not objecting to another much needed @rhinogreenhouses seed rack in silver sage 🤣- & no one can have enough seeds!) Uncensored begging over- I only share products I have tested and love - and tips I swear by. I have shared before my images of my journal and you all have been super kind and loved it, so I share again for any new followers. This is a really affordable & practical way to record what you sow and grow. The seed storage is fabulous by @chesterandcooke and I also have their shed storage rack too, which I can confirm how strong and brilliant that is as well. ! Love them. & adore these books by @milliproust and seeds by @alma.proust I can’t wait to give these a go ! #gardentips #seedgrowingtips #countryhome #gardendesign

What is overwintering? With frost and snow sweeping across much of the UK this week, some plants require extra protection from the cold. This is especially true for tender plants—those unable to survive frost. Often originating from warmer climates, these plants aren’t equipped to handle the harsh conditions of UK winters. Overwintering is essential because frost, snow, and fluctuating winter temperatures can impact garden plants in several ways: Cell damage: Frost can harm the structure of plant cells. Nutrient absorption: Cold conditions make it harder for plants to take up water and nutrients. Weakened immunity: Winter stress can lower plants’ defences, leaving them more vulnerable to pests and diseases. Discover how to protect your plants this winter with our #Overwintering Guide over on our website. ā
