“Kiss on My List” was released in 1980 on the Voices album by Daryl Hall & John Oates. Written by Hall and Janna Allen, the song was initially intended to be released by Allen, the sister of Hall’s longtime girlfriend, Sara Allen, as a solo track meant to jumpstart her music career. Hall ended up cutting a demo version of the song as a guide for Allen, but when his manager found the tape one day in studio and listened to it, he insisted Hall & Oates cut the song themselves instead, believing they had a hit on their hands. The lyrics act as a tongue-in-cheek, anti-love song, exploring the impact and significance of a kiss and the importance it holds in a relationship.
