✨ ENTRYWAY MUDROOM REVEAL ✨ This space is officially done and I couldn’t be happier with how this custom build turned out! 🤩 I’m obsessed with the warm white oak contrasting with the rich dark blue/charcoal paint. It’s just too good! Every element of this entryway build is not just beautiful, but SO functional. Here’s a tutorial on how to measure and cut for these acute and obtuse angles for wainscoting on a staircase! 📐 Bringing you back to middle school geometry okay? 🤪 Each frame is a parallelogram (corners A, B, C, D) which means the opposite diagonal corners will be the same angle (A=C, B=D). So really, you calculate for the acute and obtuse angle just once like I showed here, then rinse and repeat the same cuts for all the frames! Face frame ☑️ I got the face frame for this walnut vanity assembled and secured on! 🙌🏼 Adding a face frame always gives a basic carcass box life, don’t you think?! This face frame assembly went by fairly quick and I’m so happy with pretty much how perfect it turned out. Using spacers to attach the inner face frame pieces helped so much with accuracy and efficiency. I used dominos for the right side of the face frame since it will be exposed. Consequently, the dominos actually acted like anchors and helped align the face frame perfectly square on the main vanity carcass, which made it easy to secure the rest of the face frame with pocket screws! Next up - another batch of skinny shaker doors and drawer fronts! Adding custom upper cabinets and the countertop was all it took to make such a huge impact to this laundry space. These shaker doors are officially done being painted! 🙌🏼 The deep, rich teal color is so just pretty isn’t it? 😍(Color is @benjaminmoore - River Blue) I love to spray the primer and cabinet paint on as it leaves a butter smooth finish and gets the job done so fast! (Sprayer is TrueCoat 360 variable speed by @gracohomeownersprayers ) Using a high quality primer and cabinet paint is also key. 🔑 •Primer: My new go-to primer is Insl-X Stix primer. It sands SO well which makes for the perfect smooth surface for the cabinet paint. •Paint: There’s a handful of excellent urethane enamel cabinet paint out there from various companies, but I always reach for Insl-X Cabinet Coat. It dries fairly quickly, has half the full cure time as others, and it self-levels so nicely. It technically doesn’t require a primer, but I use one just to be safe. Anyways, the upper cabinets are ready to be installed in the laundry space next week along w the countertop, which I still need to show you! The upper cabinets for the laundry room refresh project progressed pretty quickly! 🙌🏼 Cabinet boxes ✅ Since these are going between 2 walls and the sides will not be seen, I skipped the step of making pocket holes and attached the bottoms and tops directly from the side with brad nails and screws. This also leaves the bottom of the upper cabinets flawless, as the bottom can possibly be seen if you duck and look up. I also used 1/2” plywood for the backs and made sure they were extra secured to the cabinet box, as these will be floating and screwed into the studs. Face frames ✅ I used poplar 1x2s and pocket holes and screws to assemble the face frames. Since these are paint grade, I just used brad nails and wood glue to secure them to the boxes, filled the nail holes, and sanded smooth. Shaker doors ✅ I made these as I always do with poplar 1x3s. I cut them to the right lengths, made the grooves and tenons on my table saw, and cut the middle panels out of 1/4” MDF. Then assembled them like a puzzle with wood glue on the tenons only and clamped them until dried. Now that this part is done, it means I’m about to get ready to prime and paint these! I haven’t done an IKEA hack in so long, but I always love doing them! This IKEA Bissa unit went from basic to beautiful! 😍 I’ve hacked IKEA shoe cabinets a few times before and I love how this one turned out too! I cut the back notch more to fit over the taller baseboard, added a wooden top to it to create more of a tabletop/side table feel, put pole wrap on the fronts to add more visual texture, primed + painted it all, and added some modern finger pulls. It’s such a pretty, subtle, and functional addition to this unused corner where their garage door entry opens into their dining room. No more shoes on the ground! 👟 Would you try this Ikea hack?!
