Making cheap garland look 🫰💵 The viral curtain rod garland hanging hack isn’t quite an option for our 11’ long kitchen opening, but thankfully, I have an obsession with @ookhardware cup hooks and a permanent hanging hack built right into the ceilings of nearly every room in our 1700s Colonial home — historic, dinged up wooden beams 🙌🏻 I use OOK’s black cup hooks all year long to decorate our home seasonally, but especially around the holidays (remember my DIY hanging jack-o’-lanterns in this room for Halloween?). It’s impossible to get temporary hanging hooks to adhere to our textured walls, ceilings, and beams so these are my go-to for securing heavy Christmas decorations like my faux layered garland quickly, easily, and insanely affordably! And when the holidays are over, I either just leave them in place for Spring greenery or take them out and the tiny holes simply blend in to the existing distress marks of the centuries-old wood. A K.I.S.S. Christmas for me 🎄 Keep it simple, stupid. That’s my mantra this holiday season. FINALLY feeling the Christmas spirit now that I’ve tracked down our holiday feature in @cottagesandbungalows 🎉🎄 AND discovered our home tavern on the back cover! Ahhhh! You may have noticed that I haven’t really posted Christmas content yet this year. I’ve been struggling to get motivated and feeling overwhelmed by the creator rat race to pump out Christmas content earlier and earlier each year. And I’ve wondered what it will finally take to get me feeling ready. Last Christmas, we got the exciting news that a photographer would be coming to photograph our home for the Cottages & Bungalows holiday issue, and in December, we lost my grandmother rather quickly and unexpectedly. My December went from decorating our home for an exciting opportunity to grieving, traveling out of state for the services for days, and being there for my mom through her loss. More drama followed our family later that month and we were all too emotionally exhausted to get to enjoy the season. The magazine prep took a backseat until January and I rushed to get everything ready in time for the shoot. It was a whirlwind, but I knew it would be worth it to follow through despite everything that was going on. Seeing our beautiful 14-page spread now almost a full year later confirmed it…I AM SO EXCITED!!! And I’m actually feeling I can enjoy the holidays this year. I know my grandma would be so proud. I sure wish she could see it. Christmas was her absolute favorite time of year and a love she passed on to all of us, no doubt. HUGE thank you to my incredibly sweet friend Kelly McMaster @cottagefleabythesea for seeing the beauty in our dark and moody Yuletide decor and to the wildly talented @kritsada_____ for coming back to photograph our little Xmas cave!! “On your feet soldier…” You know I couldn’t let Jamie and Claire go back to Lallybroch without US this Friday…we deserve to have a piece of Lallybroch too! Years ago, as I watched Outlander for the very first time, I was immediately captivated by the Laird’s chambers at Jamie Fraser’s ancestral home (as I’m sure most of you were too!). When I began this “Houselander” journey, my top bucket list makeover was finding that “wallpaper.” When I learned from the set designer himself that they were actually custom designed and printed onto fabric wall hangings and not something I would find available for sale anywhere (and not even wallpaper to begin with), my new goal was finding a dupe for those magical, blue thistle-covered walls. I searched HARD for years and had no luck. In 2023, I reached out to @fineanddandyco about the possibility of collaborating on a custom design, but life got busy and I forgot to follow up. UNTIL this past Spring, when I reached back out and shot my shot with an incredibly talented group of women. Our first meeting was at the end of July and it’s been full speed ever since 🥹 I can’t express how grateful I am for this team of artists for trusting me with this project and for helping bring my vision to life in every way possible!! As excited as I’ve been to FINALLY make this dream happen and be able to install this in my home, it wouldn’t be nearly as exciting if I didn’t 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒕𝒐 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖!!!
