From our exciting new research finding GDF15 is the cause of HG, new HG clinics offering specialty care, and our many clinical resources, we believe the future for those with HG will be different. This HG Awareness Month, let's ignite hope together and envision a future where HG is no longer a burden but a memory. Join us in raising funds to fuel our research, support programs, and resources, as we strive to turn hope into reality for those affected by HG. Together, we can make a difference and bring about meaningful change!
How do you know when your treatment is working? Controlling HG symptoms is hard and may require multiple medications. But even with optimal dosing and combinations, you may still feel nauseous, exhausted, and somewhat miserable. You won’t feel like you did before pregnancy. The primary goal of treatment is to reduce vomiting and nausea, so you can increase your intake (calories and fluids), be as mobile as possible, and stay out of the hospital. Learn more about severity levels at Hyperemesis.org. #hyperemesisgravidarum #pregnancy #medicine #nausea #vomiting #hgtreatment #pharmacy

January 1-7 marks World Folic Acid Awareness Week, and we’re sharing facts about this B vitamin, particularly for those with HG. Did you know that folic acid is essential for the proper closing of the neural tube of a fetus within 28 days after conception? 🔹Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate (vitamin B9). 🔹Enriched foods, such as cereals, provide some folic acid. 🔹Most people do not get enough folate in their diet which increases health risks. 🔹It is difficult to get adequate folate from food, so a pill is needed. 🔹Those who may become pregnant should take folic acid daily. 🔹B9 supplementation is critical during the first trimester to prevent defects in the baby’s brain and spine, and throughout pregnancy to reduce pregnancy complications. 🔹At least 600 mcg per day is required during pregnancy, but more may be helpful during HG. 🔹Most prenatal vitamins have folic acid but are difficult to tolerate 🔹Single-vitamin tablets are easier to tolerate when sick. 🔹Folic acid can be given by IV and may be needed when intake is limited for more than a few weeks 🔹Those with the gene variants, like MTHFR, may need active or methylated folate (Methylfolate). #folicacid #wfaaw25 #pregnancy #birthdefectspreventionmonth @ifsbh #hyperemesisgravidarum #nutrition #vitaminb9
