I can’t wait to go back and visit this garden in the lovely town of Bembridge, on the Isle of Wight. We designed a multi-functioning garden for a busy and active family of five. Work, school, sports, frequent trips to the mainland….they really wanted a space they can go home and relax in. 🌿 In we came and cue the following : • Garden room/gym/chillout space • Sunken hot tub surrounded by planting and a sun deck • Relaxed seating to entertain or just be a family in • Covered outdoor kitchen • Lots of easy to look after planting (most things only require attention once a year!) • An improved existing patio area softened with new planting • New trees for screening, height, wildlife and a feeling of enclosure • A wild grassy/meadow area to create a lovely view from the existing garden office and ensconce a further small seating area >>>> JOB DONE!! Thank you to @annamoodyphotography for capturing it so well! 🌿 Our lovely client approached us to transform her old garden into a much more usable, practical and beautiful sanctuary. Swipe to the end to see how it looked before! 🌿 A sloping site can often feel very daunting, but we see it as a brilliant opportunity to make the most of the level changes and create a really interesting space. We carefully selected a range of gorgeous, warm materials included woven fencing, beige limestone rich in fossils and lovely yellow paddlestones for the wall cladding and to fill the gabions. 🌿 The garden was meticulously built by @jr.landscaping.ltd and we couldn’t be happier with the end result 💚. Our garden care team have been enjoying looking after this lovely front garden for over 6 months now. It’s been a busy but great week getting this gorgeous, wildlife-friendly family garden planted up - including the new pond which was a must-have feature for our client, and for us - every garden should have one! 🌿 I was chuffed to bits to see it being enjoyed by our client’s daughter immediately after completion, from her specially selected and positioned boulder ☺️. Quite possibly my favourite part of this garden which is now coming together in Beckenham 👌. Work is going well on the build of this garden in Beckenham which started last week. Can’t wait to see progress on our next visit! We have been having discussions about lots of new planting designs recently and it never fails to excite me with how many options there are - I don’t mean the choice of plants as such (yes there are thousands to pick from!) but more the way that we design and layer the plants together. 🌿 Our approach is often to mingle plants which compliment each other, rather than planting in groups of 3, 5 or 7 (which is generally the way we were taught!). I love the romantic feeling created by nestling plants together in a more naturalistic way - but I also love the swathes of colour which are created by grouping plants. 🌿 Both have their merits from an environmental point of view. With swathes of the same plants, pollinators can easily move from flower to flower without travelling far to ensure they can fully restock their energy. On the other hand, adopting a more naturalistic approach means we can include more different species, which is much better for biodiversity and supporting a wider range of wildlife. 🌿 The first 5 photos are mingled, wilder looking planting. Wow it’s been a busy old few months and we have been very quiet on here lately!
