WE 👏 ARE 👏 25 👏🎉 On this day 25 years ago, The Finger Players was founded with the hope of using puppetry to inspire great stories and spark imagination. Today, we are Singapore’s oldest contemporary puppetry theatre company, striving to be the centre of research and development in puppetry. Since our inception, we have served the community tirelessly, bringing more than 200 puppetry performances to the theatres, schools, institutions, community spaces, and international stages. Over the years, we have also amassed numerous accolades as recognition of our efforts to engage the masses and pursue artistic excellence in theatre. All of this is only possible through the support of our donors and friends. 𝗕𝗨𝗠𝗣-𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝘗𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘵 𝘖𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 @ 𝘖𝘕𝘌-𝘛𝘞𝘖-𝘚𝘐𝘟: 𝘛𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘖𝘤𝘤𝘶𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 draws its theme from the terms “bump in” and “bump out”, leaving a space as transient as those who exist within that space. So, what better way to close the show than documenting the BUMP-OUT process! At 11pm, when the crowd of audience has fully subsided, the team is already at Cairnhill Arts Centre with trucks to transport the equipment, cables, and many others. After splitting up to respective spaces at the centre (FIVE locations, because triple bill), the team gets to work removing the equipment in respective spaces. Soon, the lighting fixtures, sound overhead, projection, floor markings, audience seats are removed. The green rooms where everyone can decompress are also reverted to its original state. The cast are already dismissed, leaving behind remnants of an audience’s experience watching the performance. With that, we are 9 days after Show Day. It was heartwarming to see the smiling, slightly puzzled but engaged faces occupying the spaces of ONE-TWO-SIX Cairnhill Arts Centre. This year, we are paying homage to the heritage building which we call home. This year, we are thanking everyone who has supported us for the past 25 years. This year, we are ending off with a show that means the world to us – an annual offering which celebrates the legacy and history of puppetry and the people whom we owe everything to. In today’s news: Puppetry has found its way to this year’s Singapore End-of-Year arts calendar as The Finger Players is hosting our annual Puppet Origin Stories @ ONE-TWO-SIX. 🗞 With Lead Curator and Dramaturg Chong Tze Chien spearheading the production, and Artistic Director Oliver Chong as puppetry consultant, this year’s Puppet Origin Stories highlights the history of the Cairnhill Arts Centre as a relic of the past.
