Bi-color sapphires are quite common in the blue/green/yellow varieties, but it’s extremely rare to find a bi-color sapphire in blue and pink. Winza Tanzania is the only source where these can be routinely found, but even then it’s difficult to get a good mix of color. A fine 1.93 ct lab-created emerald in the highly prized bluish-green “Colombian” color. The hydrothermal manufacturing method used for this material creates some internal wavy growth structures that give a roiled appearance called “gota de aceite” (drop of oil) or “efecto aleta de mariposa” (butterfly wing effect) that is highly desired in natural Colombian emeralds.
