‘Do your Duty. Do not Waver. You are a Soldier’ - The lines printed on the wall & Maj Akshay Girish’s chronicles displayed around gave me shivers standing there! The home is a sanctuary rather Akshay’s sanctuary where every little thing of his is preserved and kept alive in the most sacred way. Where on one end my heart cried & hands trembled on the other I felt an enormous amount of positivity and love. The spirit and courage of his parents say all about the bravery of their son. Yadon ka Pitara - A box makeover honoring the legacy of a brave martyr on his birth anniversary (6th December). एक फौजी और उसके बक्से का अटूट रिश्ता होता है & I feel privileged to have had the opportunity of redoing the first box of Major Akshay Girish. When Mrs Meghna Girish ( Akshay’s mother) called up saying she wants to preserve one of the box of her son’s cadet days with a makeover keeping the original name as it is … I felt honoured she chose me for this 🙏 We kept it simple using Olive Green as the base shade and the original written name becoming a part of the camouflage pattern. The IMA credo aptly defines the life of this brave heart hence it was written on the top side of the box. The logos of the organisations where he served in, completed the makeover & it is now kept as a part of his beloved belongings & memoirs at his home in Bangalore. Major Akshay Girish Kumar was killed in action on November 29, 2016, while fighting terrorists in the Nagrota army base attack in Jammu and Kashmir: Major Akshay was leading his unit’s Quick Reaction Team (QRT) when terrorists attacked an army unit at 5:30 AM. He was shot and a grenade was lobbed at him, killing him. Major Akshay’s actions saved the lives of 16 hostages, including women and children.
