Pastoral Gardens, a new book written by @clarefostergardens, photographed by @montgomeryphoto and self-published by @montgomerypress features two gardens designed by the studio - Little Dartmouth Farm, Devon (pictures 2 - 5) and Robin Hill, Connecticut, (pictures 6 - 9). Read the interview with Clare and Andrew published @digdelve last Saturday, which also gives details of a special discount for orders placed before Christmas. Link in the @digdelve bio.
Robin Hill throws into question the very definition of the word garden. Guided and shaped by nature, its 20 acres occupy the indeterminate space between cultivated and wild, a triumph of minimal-intervention design. Set in the leafy hills of Litchfield County, in north west Connecticut, the Neoclassical house was originally built in the 1920s by Leila Laughlin Carlisle, a Pittsburgh steel heiress, who named it after the fictional Robin Hill in John Galsworthy's novel 'The Forsyte Saga'. Follow the link in our profile to see the garden in full, as featured in our garden editor @clarefostergardens' new book 'Pastoral Gardens', a collaboration with the photographer @montgomeryphoto Photo by @montgomeryphoto Words by @clarefostergardens Design by @danpearsonstudio Head gardener @james.mc.grath Owner @susansheehangallerynyc
And a new elegantly produced publication from @niwakijake and @niwaki.hq, Niwaki Field Report, featuring @lillajapan and @shintaro_sasagawa at @tokachi_millennium_forest, beautifully written and photographed by @al_ex_ed_ouard. The issue also features @fergusmustafasabrigarrett @greatdixterofficial and @terremoto_landscape. See link in stories to buy.
The first of two editorials on DPS projects published this month. This one about Robin Hill in @houseandgardenuk written by @clarefostergardens and sensitively photographed by @montgomeryphoto. It features in their forthcoming book, Pastoral Gardens, available to pre-order from @montgomerypress. Thank you to our peerless clients @susansheehangallerynyc and John Callaghan, and to talented head gardener @james.mc.grath who keeps everything singing.
@gardenmuseum proposals for Lambeth Green have been granted planning permission by @lambeth_council. A new pavilion by @marydugganarc set within a new public park designed by @danpearsonstudio, the pavilion will provide facilities for gardeners maintaining the local green spaces initiated by the museum as well as training for young people in Lambeth who want to pursue a career in horticulture. The garden will provide respite from the busy Lambeth Bridge junction for locals and passers by and will be planted with a range of climate resilient plants. 📷 @secchi_smith - @gt_llp @marydugganarc @christopherwoodward2014 @skellyandcouch @museum_gardener
An autumn visit to @tokachi_millennium_forest. Cooling temperatures and perfect light after the heat of Tokyo and Toyama during our site visit earlier in the week. Spending time walking and talking with Midori @liliajapan and Shintaro @shintaro_sasagawa discussing old and new projects. A truly magical and inspirational visit. - Sarah Lindars, Associate
Ongoing work with the restoration of @torrecchiavecchia. Services mostly in. The site looking as undone as it ever will be and as rough in parts as it did 30 years ago when we started. All will become calm again. For now planning next moves. Plotting tree positions and the refreshed perennial layer. Taking in what’s good and trying to see beyond mud and imagine it again once everything is settled. Watch this space.
Checking in on the @gardenmuseum community garden in Paradise Gardens. A small project but a big gesture from the Garden Museum in terms of community involvement and now being nicely gardened and already much used. #danpearsonstudio
Two days at the Beth Chatto symposium ‘Beneath the Surface’. Such stimulating talks and meetings of minds. An evening in the garden and more talks and partying and more joy in being part of Beth’s legacy.
The Beth Chatto Symposium 2024- Beneath the Surface Looking Backwards, Moving Forwards with Dan Pearson Garden legacies have an uneasy relationship with the future. How can they preserve their original groundbreaking originality and still have a relevance many years later? How are ideas, ethos and style embodied in the spirit of a place and how do they change with time? Beth Chatto’s pioneering work is clearly manifested in all aspects of her garden, but six years since her passing in March 2018, what are the next steps for the iconic listed garden? 🎟We have a limited number of in-person tickets still available which includes an invitation to the Beth Chatto garden party on the evening of Thursday 29th August, and additional talks at the Garden and Firstsite Arts Centre in Colchester on Saturday 31st. 🎥 Alternatively, why not join us via live stream. You'll have access to the two days of lectures in real time, and our chat option gives you the opportunity to ask questions and be part of the conversation as it's happening. Find out about our other speakers and talks through the link in our bio. We hope you'll be able to join us. @coyotewillow @danpearsonstudio #bethchatto #bethchattogardens #bethchattosymposium2024 #bethchattosymposium #beneaththesurface #gardenparty #danpearson
