Ten children were killed when an Israeli air strike hit people queueing for food at a clinic in Gaza. The Israeli military said it targeted a "Hamas terrorist" and that it regretted any harm to what it called "uninvolved individualsâ, while adding that the incident was under review. Project Hope said the strike was "a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, and a stark reminder that no one and no place is safe in Gaza". Fuel to the engines of Air India Flight 171 - which crashed killing 260 people in June - was cut off moments after take-off, a preliminary investigation report has found. According to data from the flight recorder, both of the plane's fuel control switches moved from the run to the cut-off position in the space of a second, shortly after take-off. In recovered cockpit voice recordings, the report said one of the pilots can be heard asking "why did you cut off?" - to which the other pilot replied he "did not do so". It is not clear which pilot said what. Victims of the Srebrenica massacre are being remembered on the 30th anniversary. In July 1995, Bosnian-Serb forces overran Srebrenica in eastern Bosnia, where thousands of Bosniaks, who are mostly Muslim, had taken refuge, believing they were safely under the protection of the United Nations. Instead, Dutch soldiers stood aside as Bosnian-Serb General Ratko MladiÄ directed his troops to place women and the youngest children on buses for transport to majority-Bosniak areas. Then, over the following days, MladiÄ oversaw the systematic murder of around 8,000 people â most, but not all of them, men and boys. MladiÄ's troops dumped the bodies in mass graves. But later, to cover up their crimes, they exhumed then reburied the remains in multiple sites. Many families are still searching for their relatives' remains decades later, though DNA testing has helped thousands of families to bury their family members at PotoÄari Cemetery, adjacent to the former UN base. In a sweltering city in Afghanistan, taxis have been spotted with scrubby barrels and exhaust tubes mounted to their roofs. These are the handmade air coolers that taxi drivers have cobbled together in their desperate efforts to beat the heat. In the southern city of Kandahar, air-conditioning units inside cars often break down. Passengers have applauded the creative solution. One of the poorest countries in the world, Afghanistan is also among the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change. Afghanistan recorded its warmest-ever spring from April to June this year. A severe drought has also been spreading nationwide. Experts have repeatedly warned that the fallout from climate change would deepen Afghanistan's humanitarian crisis. The country has been left out of United Nations climate negotiations since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, after US-led forces left the country.
