Nearly 38 years of service. For West Metro Lt. Mike Frainier, it’s been a long and rewarding career, serving not only the residents and businesses in West Metro’s district, but also as an officer for the Colorado Professional Fire Fighters (CPFF) organization and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). Mike joined Bancroft Fire back in 1987- Bancroft merged with Lakewood Fire in 1995 to become West Metro. Today, as the sun came up, we honored Mike with a ringing out ceremony at our Station 5- where he wrapped up his final shift. We will miss Mike, but wish him a long and happy retirement, with lots of time for friends and family. Congratulations! #westmetrofirerescue #wearewestmetro #firefightersofinstagram #firefighter #retirement #publicservice

The water that comes roaring down from Colorado’s mountains is both cold (snowmelt) and fast. Sometimes, people underestimate it, and find themselves in trouble. In those cases, West Metro’s Swift Water and Dive Teams respond. And training keeps them ready. #westmetrofirerescue #wearewestmetro #waterrescue #diveteam #publicsafetydiver #colorado

WMFR this afternoon on a fire in a detached garage in the 400 block of South Garrison in Lakewood. Crews were dispatched at 2:22 pm, and Company 3 arrived on scene at 2:25 pm. Firefighters found the fire through the roof with the structure fully involved, and the nearby home in danger. Quick work by crews kept the fire contained to the garage, with minor damage to the home. The garage and the two vehicles inside are a total loss. The fire was caused when the homeowner tried to jumpstart one of the vehicles- the jumper cable ignited and started the fire. Safety tip: always jumpstart vehicles outside if possible. Crews on scene: Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 7, Company 8, Medic 3, SaM1, Tower 2, District 1, District 2, Bureau 7. #westmetrofirerescue #westmetrofire #structurefire #colorado #firefightersofinstagram #firefighters

A small chimney fire Tuesday night at a condo complex on W. Atlantic Place near the intersection of W. Jewell Avenue and S. Depew Street in Lakewood. A resident noticed fire and embers coming from the roof and called 911. Firefighters extinguished a contained fire in the fireplace in a first floor unit- there was no extension on the roof. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends that you clean your chimney once a year. The resident hadn’t cleaned theirs in over two years. The NFPA says you should also have your chimney inspected and cleaned more often if you notice: strong odors, soot buildup (of more than 1/8 inch) or creosote buildup. #westmetrofirerescue #westmetro #firefighters #lakewoodcolorado
