Considered a neighborhood nuisance, Senior pup Hank Williams was barely surviving on his own. Suffering from respiratory and skin infections and Heartworm disease, this old boy’s body was on the verge of giving out. The occasional scraps tossed his way weren’t enough to get by on. ⚠️GRAPHIC⚠️ 5-Month-Old Suspected Bait Dog Is Shoved In Wire Crate & Left At Car Wash With A Detached Jaw...⁠ ⁠ Meet our #DogOfTheWeek, Prince. This tiny puppy was found abandoned at a local car wash, trapped inside a metal wire crate. His jaw was so badly mutilated that he could barely close his mouth, and his soft fur was stained with blood.⁠ ⁠ In addition to his detached jaw, Prince had a massive open wound beneath his front leg, surrounded by several puncture marks, as though he'd been bitten repeatedly. After he was brought to the local shelter, staff feared he might have been used as a #baitdog, discarded when his body was too broken to be of further use. ⁠ ⁠ Bait dogs are used by dogfighters as living training dummies for fighting dogs. They are often too young or submissive to fight back, posing no risk of injury to the fighting dogs. It is a barbaric practice that celebrates senseless violence and cruelty, exploiting innocent animals and preying on their pain. Another possibility is that his leg was caught in the crate at some point, and in his desperate attempt to escape, he injured himself further.⁠ ⁠ We may never know the truth of how poor Prince came to be in this heartbreaking state. Right now, we're focused on his recovery. He's currently in critical condition, and it’s touch-and-go as we wait to see how he responds to treatment. He may require surgery to wire his jaw back in place, a procedure that could cost upwards of $10,000. This is his only chance. Invisible, Starving Dog Found Lying on the Streets of Tijuana, Covered in Oozing Tumors...⁠ ⁠ Jones found himself in the most unfortunate of circumstances. Alone and forsaken, he lay by the roadside in Tijuana, his body marked by cruel fate in the form of open, oozing tumors.⁠ ⁠ When Jones was finally rushed to a local vet, euthanasia was recommended—not because he couldn’t be saved, but because his condition was so severe and the clinic lacked the resources to treat him...but we couldn’t give up on Jones. At The Animal Pad, we’ve faced heartbreaking cases like his before. Hundreds of dogs with TVT (transmissible venereal tumor) have been saved because we refused to let their stories end. We knew Jones deserved the same chance.⁠ ⁠ Yesterday, Jones crossed the border into the U.S. on an emergency basis and was transferred to Ethos Veterinary ER. He’s resting, likely for the first time in his life, soaking up every gentle touch and kind word. When we visited him, this beautiful soul melted into us. We all couldn’t help but cry. For the first time, Jones has a name. An identity.⁠ ⁠ But the road ahead for Jones is long and uncertain. His TVT is aggressive, but it’s treatable. For over 10 days, Star—a sweet little dog—lived this very nightmare. Two grown men and three children spent their days chasing and beating him with sticks, forcing him to hide on a rooftop to escape their inexplicable wrath.⁠ ⁠ Thankfully, someone contacted our team, and we were able to intervene and put a stop to the abuse. We found Star terrified and running for his life. As we approached, he cowered, expecting more pain, but we were quickly able to win him over with kind words and gentle pats. For the first time in a very long time, Star was safe. He hid behind us from the men who had hurt him, seeking shelter with his new protectors.⁠ ⁠ The abuse Star endured cannot go unanswered. Police Called To Home Of Senior Dachshund Now In Critical Condition With Shattered Bones After Years Of Suspected Abuse... We recently received a desperate call regarding a senior #Dachshund in distress. Dragging her broken body through unimaginable conditions, Dirce is the survivor of barbaric abuse and atrocious neglect. Police arrived at Dirce’s to find a heartbreaking scene. Her elderly owner claimed Dirce’s injuries were from being hit by a car, but neighbors told a darker story. They spoke of the owner’s husband, known for his violent temper, and their suspicions that he was the one who caused Dirce’s suffering—and possibly the woman’s broken arm as well. Statements were made to the police, but minimal animal protection laws in #Brazil mean Dirce’s abuser will likely face no consequences. Thankfully, we were able to remove Dirce from her home. She is severely malnourished, dehydrated, and riddled with fleas and ticks. Her fur is patchy, her gums are pale, her eyes and nose leak mucus and severe abdominal discomfort causes her to vomit frequently. Her pelvis and right leg are also fractured. Dirce is submissive and terrified after years of prolonged abuse and isolation. Forced to endure blistering heat and freezing cold outdoors, she has known neither love nor safety—only survival. She is currently being syringe-fed recovery food as her medical team works to get her stable, essential before she can undergo the orthopedic surgery. She will require ongoing ultrasounds, intensive medical care, and, most of all, the love she has been denied for so long. We are already stretched beyond our limits, but no one else would have helped her. Our only regret is finding her so late in her life, after so much pain. Cat Miraculously Survives Electrocution & Terrifying Fall After Taking Shelter In A Transformer From The Bitter Cold...⁠ ⁠ Meet our #CatOfTheWeek, Phoenix. The night was unforgivingly cold. The only sound was the faint hum of a transformer box surrounded by high-tension wires. Beneath it, hidden in the shadows, a tiny cat came into contact with one of those wires, which sent a nearly fatal electrical current through his body.⁠ ⁠ Thrown from a significant height after being electrocuted, Phoenix landed on the hard, frozen ground. We found him the next morning, barely clinging to life. The right side of his face bore the brunt of the fall, and we suspect he has sustained fractures to his facial bones. His breathing was ragged, and his nostrils were thick with discharge. His whiskers were singed, and his entire body was motionless with shock. ⁠ ⁠ We immediately administered first aid, doing everything we could to stabilize him. Phoenix will be admitted to the hospital for a full examination and treatment. We still don't know the full extent of his injuries, but we know his recovery will be a long and arduous journey.⁠ ⁠ His medical care will include addressing any injuries to his facial bones, treating his severe chest condition, and ensuring his nasal passages are clear so he can breathe more comfortably. While hospitalized, he will receive around-the-clock monitoring and pain management medication.
