this is a must watch if you’re in Hong Kong! Racers scramble up a 14 metre tower filled with buns and they need to grab as many as they can in 3 mins. The race happens at 11:59pm every year on Buddha’s Birthday in May on Cheung Chau Island Hong Kong. Honestly it wasn’t very busy last year. In 2016, when we arrived at 7pm, we were already queued up around the bend so not sure what it will be like this year. I would suggest to go around 7/8pm to ensure a spot. As long as someone holds down the fort, you’re all free to take shifts to go to the washroom and get food but make sure you’re all back by 10pm! 📍 The line starts at the Cheung Chau Fire Station. Go left once you get off the ferry. You gotta pass the playground and everything else.

What if I told you that you can make your own pineapple bun egg waffles 🧇 ?!? Literally only takes 15 mins to make the batter. But it requires 20 mins of chill time. And 10 mins of bake time. Hahaha it took me 2 hours longer bc of my box design 🤣😂🤣 please appreciate the artwork because it took me 1.5 hours of doodling. The recipe was taken from @smelly.lunchbox! It’s her fast pineapple bun crust which you can put on top of anything. It’s so good and tastes exactly like the top of a pineapple bun. Make the pineapple bun crust 1. In a bowl, mix softened butter with sugar until smooth. Add 1 egg yolk and vanilla extract, and mix until incorporated. 50 g unsalted butter, softened, 50 g sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 egg yolk 2. Sift in flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Mix until all the flour disappears. 90 g cake or AP flour 1/8 tsp baking soda, 1/8 tsp baking powder 3. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and roll into an even log. Refrigerate for 20-30 min to allow it to firm up. 4. Preheat oven to 375 degrees and bake for about 10 mins or till it’s golden brown. That’s it! And of course, the viral place for this is @chicken_egg_boy_hk. Happy waiting as I heard it’s 1.5 hours of a wait time but I’ve heard it is delicious 😘

This char siu place has been going viral ever since it opened bc it’s opened by the people behind Flower Drum (A Michelin 1 star restaurant). @fatjcharsiuhk is in Wan Chai and definitely a bit more expensive so we went to see if it was worth it! First time we went, we got the char siu over rice and my bowl had better char siu than my friend’s bowl. The second time we went, they were sold out of all char siu 😳 So finally, for the third time, we arrived 20 mins before opening and waiting in line. That’s when the char siu was delicious. We ordered a la carte so we had the whole slab to try all the different portions and sides of it. The goose drumstick was also delicious as well. Get your egg waffles here if you’re in Hong Kong! Egg waffles, egg bubbles, eggettes are a must eat street food when you’re in Hong Kong but I find all the cheap $10hkd per order all tasteless or the texture is off, either too crispy or too soggy. This one has great flavour and feels light to eat.
