Can the Ukraine war come to a peaceful conclusion? That is the question that is being hashed out at two separate summits by world leaders, 3000 miles apart.  In Saudi Arabia the US and Russian diplomats will meet to discuss relations and peace talks, and in Paris European leaders have called an emergency meeting with aims of ensuring they are considered part of the conversation.  And Ukraine? Well, a Kyiv representative is headed for Saudi, but without an invitation from either Russia or the Trump Administration.  One thing’s for sure, it’s going to be a busy week in geo-politics, which could have major implications for the West and the wider world, as leaders push for peace, but each on their own terms. #ukraine #russia #news

Across Europe, polls show young men are increasingly turning to the right and far-right, with a political gulf forming between them and their female agemates. With the German elections coming up on the 23rd February, this slide is more important than ever as far-right populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) enjoys large gains gains among young people. In the last EU election, in 2019, one in three voters younger than 24 chose the Green Party, and the far-right AfD garnered just 5% of the young vote. But in 2024, 16% of youths voted for the AfD in the European elections, tripling the party’s share in this demographic and placing the party almost on par with the center-right alliance of the CDU and the CSU.

Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson on a crowded Manhattan sidewalk, appeared in court for a status hearing on Friday in New York City. The 26-year-old has pleaded not guilty to state charges but has not yet entered a plea on federal murder charges related to Thompson’s death.
