This was my grandmother's cabinet. I can still picture it in her home! Then it was in my parents' and then mine! I can't believe I didn't fill the hardware holes when I painted it all those years ago! 🤦‍♀️ Live and learn! And let me just say .. I will not be telling you that stripping this piece was "so satisfying "... it was dreadful! But it worked! Painted in a custom green using @fusionmineralpaint Little Lamb, Bayberry and . I did a faux wood grain on the top with a wood graining tool and layers of paint washes in Algonquin and Cashmere. I added a back ( not sure what happened to it over the years!!), painted the inside of cabinet, lined the drawers and added new hardware. What seems like a lifetime ago, my husband and I ran an AAU basketball organization. The tournaments maybe long over ...but the friendships have lasted a lifetime! This lane hope chest was brought to me by a player's parents (turned friends 😊). It was in the family for years and they wanted it painted in a light gray. They chose @fusionmineralpaint Cobblestone, a beautiful soft gray. The tricky part was the pulls... I couldn't remove them! Their screws would not turn! This dated dresser was given a more modern look by changing out the hardware, adding pole wrap and painting it in a sleek black. I tried Sherwin Williams Emerald line for the first time and it did not disappoint! Amazing coverage and finish! I will certainly be trying more colors soon. I love these little vintage pieces! So fun to update! Solid wood with so much character! I sanded down the top, bleached it to remove water stains then added a paint wash and a glaze for more depth and dimension. I painted the base in @dixiebellepaint Cactus green - a beautiful deep olive color- sooo popular in my area!! I painted the Knapp joinery, lined the drawers and cabinet, added salve to refresh the drawers and cleaned and sprayed the original pulls. This has to be one of my favorite transformations to date!! 😊 Swipe to see where I started!!! Instead of putting this Lane cedar chest curbside, my neighbor brought it over to me. I have been dieing to try pole wrap and this was the perfect opportunity!! I added it to the 2 inset areas, sanded back the top, and added a tan paint wash to both. I painted the base in Sunday Tea @countrychicpaint. I added new knobs to the false drawer fronts- did you know they make smaller knobs for jewelry boxes? They were the perfect size for these little panels! My neighbors could not believe it was their old chest!!! Talk about FUN!!! I enjoyed myself from start to finish with this one!! This piece is from the 1800's! (You can tell by the pin and cove joinery! ) And trust me... she looked like she was over 100 years old!! Gauged, split, cracked, warped .... so instead of trying to make her perfect, I embraced her imperfections! I added more texture and layers of design with paint, texture additives, stencils and glaze. This buffet had amazing bones! No repairs needed (Whoo hoo!!!), just some updates. Removed the old base and added new feet. Removed the dated green felt- and wow! check out the gorgeous wood that was underneath! Filled the hardware holes and added new antique brass knobs. Primed, then painted the base in a beautiful sage green. Sanded and paint washed the top. Sealed everything up in a matte poly. As I was loading this set into our truck, the seller told me how she remembered her mom sitting at the low dresser getting ready for her special nights out with her dad. Sweet memories!!! She pictured this set updated in blue, so blue it is!! Inkwell @wiseowlpaint is one of my favorites. The tops were a bit tricky as they had bits of missing veneer that I had to patch and blend. They also pulled really red. But a green paint wash and 2 coats of @lillymoonpaintofficial Smokey gelstain seemed to do the trick!! And can we talk about these drawer liners!! This set was made by the Continental Furniture Company from Ontario Canada. In great shape, it just needed an update. I sanded back the tops and stained them with @lillymoonpaintofficial Smokey Gelnstains for a beautiful finish! I painted the bases in @wiseowlpaint OHE in White Birch- a classic white with a grey undertone. I love painting in green, especially this time of year! This is a new to me color, @wiseowlpaint OHE in Foxtrot. It's a deep rich green! 💚 Originally, I was hoping to save some of the wood veneer on this piece. But, once I started working on it, I realized so much of the veneer was already patched and multiple holes were drilled for different hardware over the years 🤦‍♀️... so paint to the rescue!and I must say, I'm loving it in this green.
