This thought became a reality on my 21st birthday and absolutely the best gift I could ever have asked for. At last, I shall be free. 15 years ago, I visited my mom in the U.S. for the first time and was captivated by the freedom within its education system. At 14, I left home alone and traveled thousands of miles to attend high school in the U.S., escaping the conformist and hierarchical system in China. At 16, I came to New York for the first time for a summer program at Columbia that taught entrepreneurship. My mom accompanied me and waited in front of hamilton when i’m in class. At 18, I moved to New York for college with zero friends or connections. Today, I graduated with a degree in computer science—having met life-changing mentors, inspirational peers, and above all, become the version of myself I once dreamed of & found a mission I’ll dedicate the rest of my life to.
