A travel and adventure from west to east, from ancient cities and traditional nomadic culture to Soviet time and brutalist style. A trip to remember for a lifetime captured on film. We have learned so much throughout this journey. There is so much history that we were never taught in school, and I’m grateful to have experienced it firsthand. The Timurid Empire, and how central these countries once were to the Silk Road and global trade. The old madrasas – schools that in ancient times taught mathematics and astronomy. And then, the traces of the Soviet era, which left both beauty and scars on the region with its stark, brutalist buildings standing as reminders of that time. The feeling of complete remoteness. Nothing but empty hills, cows and horses as far as the eye can see. Amazonia days – Photos and a caption won’t come close to describing how it felt like spending four days in the Amazonia forest, seventeen hours by bus from Quito. No internet connection, just connection with nature. Swimming in the lake during sunset, canoeing in the river, starry nights, local knowledge, natural foods, bird watching, animal scouting and a curiosity over all the insects in the jungle. Feeling the grandeur of Amazonia, a place I had so far only heard stories about, filled me with a new awe of wildlife and reminded me of the importance of preserving the forest which can be abstract and hard to grasp living far away in Europe.
