We spoke with Halley Strongwater of Loam this July. You might recognize Loam from our apothecary shelves—a line of wellness products started by herbalist Hally Strongwater in her home of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Halley is one of those unique individuals who is at once inspiring and master of her craft, yet warm and down-to-earth—and our interview with her this month is a beautiful showcase of these qualities. Each of Loam’s products are born of her hands and the environment she resides in, making Loam a paragon of the healing force of nature bottled for the everyday.

I’m so excited to share that our Santa Fe guide is finally here! Designed with Katie Hart of @odddaughterco this guide holds some of my favorite Santa Fe spots. We featured shops like @palomarestaurant and @lamamasantafe, stores like @sote_1982 and @livingthreads_story as well as hikes and fun things to do with kids. There are written recommendations with every single item so you can plan the perfect trip to my beloved home town. I also selected some of my favorite Santa Fe doorways and windows for this post so scroll through and see if you can find any of them! Link is available in our bio and on LinkTree. Enjoy!

I know most of you probably know how to use our Loam Oil refill BUT did you know my special funnel trick to keep the oil from pooling? Watch this short short tutorial on how to use our 8oz refill bottles to fill your 2oz or 4oz bottles.
I feel like I tell this story every year, but to be honest it’s an origin story so it’s always worth telling. Dandelion Meadow Cream was one of the first Loam products I made, a combination of all my favorite meadow flowers together. This product features locally grown and plucked dandelion flowers, dried in baskets and paper bags. We then add red clover and self-heal flowers into organic Arizona jojoba oil. The flowers are exposed to the sun for a few days where they slowly infuse into the oil. We add a very small amount of local beeswax and red raspberry seed oil. Dandelions are one of the most important flowers because they are typically the first food for pollinators. They are often thought of as a weed, but they do very little to invade and should always be left alone. They contain powerful but largely understudied skin healing agents and this product will make your skin GLOW. Red clover and self-heal are both potent skin repair agents, I love this cream for after cleansing and before sunscreen. Dandelion Meadow Cream restock coming April 25th!
As if we didn’t know already, a new paper was issued in February of 2025 to remind us all how magical plants are. This paper explores the benefits of anthocyanins and their abilities to actually mitigate the toxic effects of micro and nanoplastics on male and female (and gender nonbinary) reproductive systems. We were so excited to see this paper and wanted to share some of the highlights here. For full citation and a link to the paper, check out the last page in this doc. #anthocyanins #microplastics #nanoplastics #reproductivehealth #reproductivemedicine #loam
Loam Takeover coming this week! With Kathe Kaczmarzyk! Most of you know I like to do takeovers in January, and well, that didn’t happen this year. BUT I’m so excited for one of our oldest customers @kathekacz to takeover the Loam Instagram this Friday April 4th! Kathe and her partner Jesper curated the most beautiful food store in Sweden until last year, and they carried our products from day one. She is the most talented and wonderful human, endlessly supportive of Loam and small businesses everywhere. Here is more about Kathe in her own words: “I’m a weaver & textile artist currently living in Malmö, Sweden. I’m Polish American born and raised in NYC but I left the U.S. after graduating college. I spent most of my life studying art first at LaGuardia High School and then in Baltimore where I received my BFA from MICA. After graduating college my life got swept into the food world and I’ve been working in the industry for the past 10+ years. My main focus was in fermentation, traveling to consult and teach workshops until my partner Jesper and I opened our food shop Amiralsgatans Speceributik (@speceributik) here in Malmö. We closed our shop last year and that’s when I decided to take my personal interest in fiber and weaving and transform it into a proper practice.” We are looking forward to learning more about Kathe this Friday!
Prairie pasqueflower or Pulsatilla nuttalliana is one of those first spring flowers that is fleeting and breathtaking. The flowers emerge in spring during snowmelt, their petals are a delicate lavender color and they always make me excited for what is to come. They will continue to bloom for several days while the leaves slowly emerge behind the flower. After the sepals fall, what’s left are fluffy seed heads that look very similar to Apache Plume. #loambotany #loam #pasqueflower #pulsatilla #pulsatillanuttalliana #rockymountainwildflowers
