The Biden administration set a goal that 40% of climate, clean energy, affordable and sustainable housing, and other investments would flow specifically to communities marginalized by underinvestment and overburdened by pollution. This is its Justice40 Initiative–and it’s at risk under a new administration that is not expected to similarly prioritize environmental justice. Still, Justice40 applies to more than 500 programs across 19 federal agencies. That’s not a simple thing to dismantle in one fell swoop. According to Myron Ebell, who led the EPA transition during Trump’s first term, “It’ll be a hard slog for the Trump administration, but I’m sure it’s going to be on their list of things to get rid of.” Sources: The White House, MSN #MomsFactCheck
It’s highly likely EV tax credits as we know them will cease to exist when President Trump takes office. He did promise to end President Biden’s “EV mandate” while campaigning. There is no sugarcoating this. It’s a tremendous loss for the clean energy transition. But opportunities are already popping up that show people are committed to keeping EVs affordable. The governor of California, the country’s leader in clean vehicles, has already announced plans to restart a state rebate if the federal tax credit is eliminated. Hopefully others will follow suit. And never rule out an about-face. Having Tesla CEO Elon Musk as a close confidant could change course. As Trump said in August, “I’m for electric cars. I have to be, because Elon endorsed me very strongly.” #ev #ElectricVehicles

❤️ Moms ❤️ #electricschoolbuses ❤️ Via @latimes The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency plans to grant $135 million to California school districts and state and local governments to help them switch to battery electric vehicles. The move follows Gov. Gavin Newsom?s August announcement of $500 million in state aid to put 1,000 electric school buses on the road in California. Last year, the governor mandated that all new school buses sold starting in 2035 must be zero-emission vehicles. The EPA money will go to 13 government agencies, including the Los Angeles Unified School District, Oxnard School District and Oakland Unified School District. Recipients must use the money to replace aging fossil-fuel vehicles, which will have to be scrapped. The EPA said it will work with recipients to finalize the awards in early 2025. If the awards go through in time, the Los Angeles district will receive about $20 million to replace 50 fossil-fuel school buses. #ev #ElectricVehicles ?? Myung J. Chun

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Via @guardian_us The EPA has banned perc and TCE, toxic chemicals that are widely used in everyday products but strongly linked to cancer and other serious health problems. The move comes after the first Donald Trump administration killed the process to limit the chemicals’ uses, but the bans make it difficult for the second Trump administration to undo the rules. The chemicals are commonly used in dry cleaning, carpet cleaning, hoof polishes, brake cleaners, adhesives, pepper spray and lubricants. “After decades of workers and communities across the country sounding the alarm about the devastating health effects they’ve experienced, we are glad to see that EPA has finally banned these dangerous chemicals,” said Liz Hitchcock, director of federal policy for the Toxic-Free Future advocacy group. TCE, or trichloroethylene, is linked to male reproductive damage, liver disease, kidney disease, neurological damage and Parkinson’s disease. It has particularly been a problem for those living near air force bases or civilian airports because it is widely employed as an industrial degreaser. Follow the link in bio for the full story.
Outrageous 😡 The Mount Vernon News was family owned from 1939 until it was sold in 2020 to a “pink slime” media company with ties to conservative billionaires. Then it began publishing one-sided articles that make dubious claims about solar power. #solarpowered #solar #Renewables #solarpower
No white Christmas for these folks 😡😡😡 Via @abcnews As snow fell across Rumford, Maine, some residents noticed some off-color accumulation. A malfunction at a local paper mill released spent black liquor, a by-product, into the atmosphere, causing falling snow to turn brown as it fell. Residents are being warned that the snow could be an irritant if touched, with the town manager saying, "It's not a hazardous material, but it could still potentially irritate skin, eyes or the paws on your dog." 😡😡😡
❤️❤️ "Once you go electric, you almost never go back to a gas-powered car. According to a new survey from the Global EV Alliance, over 90% of EV drivers plan to buy another electric vehicle after trading in a gas car. Meanwhile, only 1% said they would return to an ICE vehicle." #ev #ElectricVehicles
