CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo Unit (SLU) and San Luis Obispo County Fire Department Multi-Company Structural Firefighting Drill The CAL FIRE San Luis Obispo Unit and San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, specifically Battalion 3411 and 3412, recently participated in an intensive, multi-company structural firefighting drill aimed at enhancing coordination, operational efficiency, and safety in live-fire situations. The training scenario simulated a multi-story structure fire, requiring a rapid, coordinated response from three fire engines. Each evolution began with an initial size-up, where crews assessed the fire’s location, structural integrity, and resource needs. These multi-company drills are vital for developing and maintaining the decision-making skills of Fire Captains and Company Officers. They provide hands-on experience in managing complex fireground operations, ensuring that leaders can effectively assess and respond to structure fires of all types. By honing these skills, the training not only enhances firefighter safety but also reinforces the protection of the surrounding communities.
